Cross Creek offers an active, golf-centered community

Although it’s located about 12 miles from downtown Fort Myers, life in Cross Creek revolves around golf. The gated community is built around the Cross Creek Country Club and its executive-style, par-60 golf course. The course is chief among the club’s host of other amenities, often serving as the main draw for homebuyers, but it’s not the only perk. “Cross Creek is centrally located, so you have a very quick drive over to the airport. They have a restaurant, they have numerous pools, and it’s a very active community,” says Dave Lambert, a real estate agent with a CRS designation at Coldwell Banker Realty, adding that residents can be as involved in this active community as they want.

Golf, tennis and swimming in Cross Creek, more options at nearby parks

Cross Creek Country Club’s 18-hole course was designed by Arthur Hill, and it’s paired with the club’s Pro Shop. “The golf is pay-as-you-play, so you’re not forced to join a golf membership,” Lambert says. “That’s very appealing to people. If you have to join a golf membership and you’re only there for three or four months out of the year, it’s like, ‘How do I get my money’s worth?’” It’s a unique feature that adds flexibility for snowbirds and residents who don’t play as often, but memberships are available for those who want them. Cross Creek also has a community clubhouse, pool and hot tub as well as bocce courts and three courts where residents can play tennis or pickleball. The community contains 18 condominium associations, each of which often has its own community pool as well. About 3 miles from Cross Creek, the 3,500-acre Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve has a butterfly garden and a 1.2-mile boardwalk where casual hikers can explore the wetlands. Residents also drive about 2 miles to Lee Health Sports Complex to catch Minor League baseball games or watch the Minnesota Twins play during their spring training program.

Condominiums and single-family houses create a wide price range

Cross Creek has a mixture of condominiums in two- or three-story buildings and detached Mediterranean-inspired houses, which often have lanais with small private pools. “It fits different budgets for different people, but you still get to enjoy the amenities and the bars and restaurants, and there’s just tons to do there and lots of friends to be made,” Lambert says. Condominiums typically cost between $160,000 and $275,000, while single-family homes can range from $250,000 to $770,000.

A low crime score, hurricanes and Fort Myers’ wastewater problems

Cross Creek’s CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. Hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, brings high winds and heavy rains with the potential for flooding. Most of Cross Creek’s homes aren’t in FEMA flood zones, but a few are. Residents should always ensure they’re familiar with evacuation routes. The city of Fort Myers is also dealing with a longstanding wastewater treatment problem. For years, the city’s raw sewage has made it into nearby waterways, including the Caloosahatchee River. The city was ordered to resolve the issue and improve infrastructure by 2028, but it’s struggling to keep up with its growth and has pushed the deadline to 2032.
