San Carlos Bay
Dip your toes into the waters of Bunche Beach
Because San Carlos Bay is a coastal neighborhood, beaches are more than an amenity: they’re a way of life. The Bunche Beach Preserve rests on the neighborhood's south end, just over a mile south of Summerlin Road. Folks can drive straight to the beach or ride their bike for more exercise. When they reach the shore, fishing, kayaking and paddle boating opportunities await. As the sun sets, watch silhouettes of birds against the city skyline. Be sure to snap a few pictures or rest under a palm tree to encapsulate the Bunche Beach experience.Homes impacted by Ian haven't dissuaded buyers
Several housing options present themselves in San Carlos Bay, and sadly, few survived Hurricane Ian unscathed. “Almost 100% of the homes we’ve worked with were impacted in some way,” says Barton. Despite the damages, demand is still high. On the north end sit several manufactured home parks, where Floridians can purchase a home or rent one for their vacation by the beach. Bayside Estates, a mobile home community on the southeast side, offers modest ranch-style layouts averaging about 1,100 to 1,300 square feet, ranging between $150,000 and $250,000. Farther south along Pelican Bay, prospective buyers can expect to find prairie and bungalow-style single-family homes with waterfront access. Pricing varies quite a bit, depending on square footage, with the low-end costing $700,000 and the high-end costing nearly $4 million. Mid-rise condos also appear, with stunning views overlooking the water.Building a sense of community in greater Fort Myers
The greater Fort Myers area has many events, especially around the holidays. The Christmas Boat Parade, held on Fort Myers Beach, is what it sounds like: decorated and illuminated boats take to the water and travel beneath the Matanzas Bridge, after which folks can vote for their favorite entry. At the January Art Walk, residents can peruse works of art done by local artists, most of which are for sale. Various musicals and live performances are also held throughout the year.Seafood is on the menu
A few restaurants are available to locals in San Carlos Bay. Pinchers is a seafood joint renowned for its fresh baskets of crab legs, served in a rustic, beach house-type setting. On the opposite end, Sunflower Café serves up breakfast staples alongside patty melts and sandwiches for lunch. This spot has been serving residents of San Carlos Bay for over twenty years, with a 2021 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award to boot. Across the parking lot sits Walmart Supercenter for home and grocery basics. Locals can find anything else they need at Publix Super Market along Summerlin Road. For those who like to try on clothes, the Sanibel Outlets feature a few major brands to browse, like Coach and Nike.Attending class in San Carlos Bay
Kids in San Carlos Bay attend Heights Elementary, rated B-plus by Niche. Thanks to their Before and After School Program, which offers supervision and homework assistance, kids can stay late or arrive early depending on their needs. Niche gives Lexington Middle School a B-plus rating as well. The school offers an International Baccalaureate Program for early college prep. Kids can continue challenging themselves with AP courses when they reach Cypress Lake High, rated A-minus overall by Niche.Using the LeeTran
Locals can utilize the Lee County Transit, or LeeTran, bus system to get around. The bus route follows an L-shape, connecting passengers along Summerlin Road and San Carlos Boulevard. It will also take locals farther inland toward Costco Wholesale and other major retailers, but driving one’s own car is still the fastest and most convenient.
