“If you want to be close to shopping, schools, the parks and the interstate for under $200,000, Auburn Farms is ideal,” says Realtor Jennifer Camperman-Bradford of American Dream Team Real Estate Brokers, Inc., of Fort Wayne’s Auburn Farms neighborhood. “It’s a family-friendly neighborhood in a fabulous location.” Only about 100 homes exist in this small subdivision, and there’s only one entrance off Auburn Road that brings folks in and out of the weave of this community's cul-de-sac streets. “Tucked by woods on one side and the interstate on the other, Auburn Farms lends itself to more of that everyone-knows-everyone feeling,” Camperman-Bradford says, adding that kids play freely along the streets and neighbors look out for each other. “It’s a tight-knit community where everyone can feel safe.”

A note on housing foundations
The neighborhood was established in the early 1990s when local builder Melody Homes put up a slew of tri-level houses. According to Camperman-Bradford, “Auburn Farms is one of about a dozen subdivisions in the area where the builder built these homes on wooden foundations.” The wooden foundations have not always been able to withstand the freeze-thaw temps in Northeast Indiana, and some homes have seen significant rebuilds since the subdivision’s inception. With an average of 1,400 square feet, homes are typically priced from $145,000 to $205,000. “Compared to surrounding areas, the amount of square footage you can get for the price is reasonable for the 46528 zip code,” Camperman-Bradford says. Homes are located on well-maintained lots lined with trees, sidewalks, and lampposts.

Large parks close to home
Auburn Farms residents don’t need to look too far outside of the neighborhood for a change of scenery and some fresh air. “There are parks less than five minutes away,” says Camperman-Bradford. “They’re all big parks with not just walking trails, but ponds, soccer fields, baseball diamonds and events.” A popular go-to for recreation is Shoaff Park, which spans over 184 acres to the east of the neighborhood. Residents can practice their swings at the Shoaff Park Golf Course or hone their Frisbee throwing skills at the 18-hole disc golf course. Kids of all ages enjoy the playground, bouldering walls and splash pad. The whole Fort Wayne Trail system connects to the area as well; according to Camperman-Bradford, they’re a magnet attraction for residents across northeast Indiana.
