Suburban Neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Allen County 46805, 46808
Stately early-20th-century homes and condominiums on the park
Much of Brookview Civic was developed between 1906 and 1965, and the homes reflect the styles of the early 20th century. “There’s a whole range of historic homes, from older early-century Craftsmans to mid-century moderns,” Barnhart says. Other notable styles include Tudor Revivals and Colonial Revivals. The collection of historic architectural styles and stunning landscaping is a distinguishing feature of the neighborhood that earned the Brookview-Irvington Park Historic District a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. According to Barnhart, it’s fueled a movement within the community. “There has been a heavy resurgence in renovations and remodeling of period homes,” he says. Realtor Tracy Hale-Lamb of Century 21 Bradley Realty notes that this resurgence has attracted many homeowners to the area, especially in relation to the downtown development. “It’s a neighborhood in transition as younger generations are moving in and renovating,” she says. Many properties in Brookview Civic have driveways that run alongside the house, leading to detached garages in the backyards, though street parking is plentiful. Househunters can expect to find price tags in the neighborhood between $115,000 and $275,000, depending on size and condition. One and two-bedroom condos are also available on the neighborhood’s north side, near Vesey Park; prices typically range from $55,000 to $75,000.
Extensive outdoor amenities close to home
Brookview Civic is flanked by a host of parks and natural spaces. On the north end of the neighborhood is Vesey Park, a tranquil 15-acre space ideal for games of tag or picnic lunches. Also accessible from the neighborhood is the Puffbelly Trail part of Fort Wayne’s extensive 120-mile trail network. With downtown being less than two miles down North Clinton Street, residents can be at concerts at Headwaters Park or kayaking on the river at Promenade Park in no time. Also less than five minutes away by car is the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and Franke Park, another pull for Brookview Civic residents. “The Fort Wayne Zoo is well-known as one of the best in Indiana,” Hale says. “They have year-round events, like summer camps for kids and a Halloween party.”Local Fort Wayne Community Schools

Baseball fans can catch a TinCaps game at Parkview Field, although non-sports fans have plenty of options, too; the family-friendly events at the stadium range from comedy shows to cornhole competitions. For a bite to eat and some retail therapy, The Landing is a newly revitalized pedestrian strip in the heart of the city, home to restaurants, bars, boutiques and coffee shops. Barnhart says Mercado is a local favorite, serving Mexican plates and cocktails in a casual but quirky space. When it comes to groceries, Kroger is just a mile from home.
