Quiet streets lined with historic homes and condo options

Much of Brookview Civic was developed between 1906 and 1965, and the homes reflect the styles of the early 20th century. “You’ve got really kind of quiet, beautiful streets that curve along the creek and river,” says Patrick Gillan, the managing broker of The Antrim Group. Having grown up in Fort Wayne, he’s been assisting homebuyers for over 20 years. “The Craftsman style is very prevalent there, and there’s just some stunning midcentury architecture.” Its collection of historic styles and stunning landscaping is a distinguishing feature of the neighborhood that earned the Brookview-Irvington Park Historic District a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Most homes sell between the low $100,000s to the low $200,000s, depending on size and condition. One and two-bedroom condos are also available on the neighborhood’s north side, with prices usually ranging from $55,000 to $90,000.

Enjoy being close to downtown Fort Wayne's restaurants and shops

For dining and shopping, you’re less than 2 miles from downtown Fort Wayne, only about a five to 10-minute drive. You’ll find some of the city’s most popular restaurants and shops at The Landing, a pedestrian strip in the heart of the city, home to restaurants, bars, boutiques and coffee shops. “You know, in the ‘80s and ‘90s, there wasn’t much to brag about for downtown,” Gillan says. “But it’s just exploded, and there’s so much to do, and tons of great places to eat.”
While the list of restaurants is long, a few local favorites include:

  • Mercado, serving Mexican plates and cocktails in a casual but quirky space
  • Nawa, which specializes in Thai dishes
  • Dana’s, a long-standing tavern with creative drinks and upscale New American food
When it comes to errands, Brookview Civic is only a mile from one of the city’s largest retail areas, home to stops such as Target, Petco and Walmart.

Here, you’re surrounded by green spaces. On the north end of the neighborhood is Vesey Park, a 15-acre space ideal for games of tag or picnic lunches. Brookview Civic also has direct connection to the Rivergreenway, a system of trails that run over 100 miles. “It’s cool, you can hop on your bike and hit the trail, and be right in Headwaters Park. It’s where we kind of say the starting point of the trail is,” Gillan says. In the warmer months, Headwaters Park is hugely popular for its outdoor events, such as concerts, and its riverside spot means you can easily launch a kayak or canoe. Also less than five minutes away by car is the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and Franke Park, another pull for Brookview Civic residents.

Brookview Civic is right along North Clinton Street, which takes residents straight to downtown, less than a 2-mile trek. Citilink buses make a highly limited number of stops along North Clinton Street, if you need to consider public transportation.
