Historic neighborhood near Fort Wayne

Located just minutes from Fort Wayne’s downtown area, East Side Community is a historic neighborhood with easy downtown access. The community was established in the early 1930s, and prospective residents will see that many homes in the area were built around that time, giving them a classic charm. Though most of the neighborhood is residential, the southern side is lined with industrial buildings, with the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern Railroad nearby. Though downtown is close by, there are some dining options close by, as well as markets and shops to get any groceries or daily essentials. With many affordable homes that are great for first-time buyers or investors, the East Side Community provides residential comforts with quick access to the city.

Classic homes for low prices

Many of the homes in the community date back to the 1920s into the 50s, with architectural styles ranging from cozy two-bedroom bungalows to historic multi-level homes. Real estate prices have recently sold between $50,000 and $140,000 for remodeled homes. Short residential roads are lined with sidewalks and mature trees that provide plenty of shade during a morning walk. Though many homes in the neighborhood don’t have garages, they come with lengthy driveways that can fit multiple vehicles.

Fort Wayne Community Schools

Public schools in the Fort Wayne Community Schools district are close to the neighborhood, and many school-aged children will start their academic journey at Adams Elementary, which has a C overall Niche grade. Students will then attend Blackhawk Middle School, with an overall B-minus Niche grade, then Snider High School. Snider High has taught students in the area since 1965, offering various academic programs, including its Project Lead the Way- Biomedical Sciences program and internship programs in medical, therapeutic and diagnostic fields.

Neighborhood parks nearby

Residents looking to spend the day outdoors can head to Sieling Park, which has a green space and park benches to enjoy an afternoon lunch. The expansive 42-acre Memorial Park is also just minutes away. Dedicated to World War I veterans, this park has a baseball field, a playground for children and walking trails. Residents can take a dip in the swimming pool during the summer months or head to the Memorial Park Sprayground, which has several play structures. The pavilion on the park grounds is the perfect place to host a party or family gathering.

There are several local spots around for a bite to eat, including Birrieria La Cabana, which serves Mexican fare and several birria specials. Residents can get smoked wings and other barbecue favorites from the Neighborhood Smoke House. For any groceries, the Pontiac Street Market and Mi Tierra Supermarket are close by.

Easy downtown access

There are public transportation options along New Haven Avenue and Wayne Trace, and several local roads feed right into downtown. The neighborhood is located in the middle ground between Coliseum Boulevard and Lafayette Street, two main thoroughfares that allow easy access throughout the Fort Wayne area.
