Eldorado Hills
Midcentury homes priced well below the national average
Realtor Kim Doster of 21 Century Bradley Realty, Inc., said higher mortgage rates are the reason for fewer homes for sale in the neighborhood. Homebuyers can expect to find a variety of home types, including ranch styles, split-levels, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals. Smaller three-bedroom dwellings can sell for between $150,000 and $210,000. Larger homes sell between $210,000 and $230,000, placing the neighborhood at a lower median than Downtown Fort Wayne, which offers condominiums that approach $1 million. Renters also have options, with apartment complexes on either side of the single-family cul de sacs.Attending class in Eldorado Hills
Students can attend Willard Shambaugh Elementary, which gets a B-minus from Niche. Jefferson Middle is rated C-plus overall. Northrop High School completes the list with a B-minus and is known for its award-winning marching band. Fort Wayne Community Schools offers an English Language Learners program to its diverse base of students who collectively speak over 70 languages.Nearby Shoaff Park offers extensive sports facilities
Less than a mile south of Eldorado Hills sits Praise Park. This dog-friendly spot spans over 29 acres and offers a ball field, basketball court, several ponds and an open-air amphitheater. Shoaff Park welcomes athletes of all types about 2 miles west of town: Baseball diamonds, a soccer field, a disc golf course, basketball courts and tennis courts are available to the public. Its location along the St. Joseph River makes the park a popular spot for boating and hiking as well. The aptly named Riverbend Golf Course hugs the St Joseph River, where golfers can play 18 holes and visit the bar with no membership required.A handful of eateries are close by
Residents can walk to Maplecrest Shops, a small shopping center in the northeast corner of the neighborhood. This small strip features Iron Society Gym, a local veteran-owned facility, and Sarah's Nail Art, a popular nail salon. Other shops and some eateries start to appear half a mile south along Maplecrest Road. There’s Bon Bon’s Coffee for the early birds and Zesto Ice Cream, each on either side of the thoroughfare. Salsa Grille, a locally owned Mexican restaurant chain, is around the corner. Kroger has the weekly grocery essentials.Dozens of events are held in Downtown Fort Wayne
Downtown Fort Wayne has an events schedule packed with seasonal and cultural festivals and markets. Each July, the city throws the Three Rivers Festival. The nine-day event celebrates the St. Marys, St. Joseph, and Maumee rivers, which converge downtown. It is the second-largest summer festival in Indiana and includes live music, food vendors, art exhibitions, fair games, riverboat rides, and more. The city also hosts several annual cultural events throughout the summer, including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Arab Fest and Germanfest.I-469 and I-69 are nearby
Eldorado Hills is close to two major highways. I-469 sits just to the east and connects to I-69. Both highways lead to Fort Wayne International Airport, a 26-mile, 30-minute drive away. The Citilink bus system does not extend far enough outside Downtown Fort Wayne to reach Eldorado Hills, so the community is largely car-dependent.Flooding in Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne carries a “moderate risk” of floods, according to RiskFactor. To mitigate the effects of potential floods, the city has over 12 miles of flood control structures in place. An early warning system is also in place to keep tabs on the city’s three intersecting rivers. The closest body of water is Cedar Creek, which is about a mile northwest of Eldorado Hills, but it isn’t as impactful as the city’s rivers.
