Mature trees over midcentury homes
Lots average about a quarter-acre, and most include at least a mature tree or two, which after years of growth now shade the roadways. Most mid-century homes in this neighborhood come with private driveways and attached garages, though carports and backyard garages aren't hard to find. “Really, it’s just a normal neighborhood,” says Tower, adding that homes here don't often change hands, leading to contract signings within days of listing. The typical Hillcrest home averages about 1,100-square-foot built in a ranch style. Some split-levels can be found. Single-level homes sell for between $100,000 and $150,000. On the northern edge, two-story homes have sold from around $135,000 to about $200,000.Riverside paths and parks near Hillcrest
Hillcrest is just far enough away from downtown to evoke a sense of privacy. St Marys Pathway winds north to south for a pleasant walk along the riverbank. Residents can take the kids to Tillman Park for its playground and bring the dog along for a walk. The Donald Ross Golf Club's nine-hole course is closer, but the 18-hole course at Foster Park is no more than 3 miles away. The Allen County Public Library is a go-to for rainy days. Currently, a petition is being circulated to expand the library’s family, youth and STEM spaces.Fort Wayne Community School District
Students can attend Harrison Hill Elementary, rated C overall by Niche. They then move to Kekionga Middle, which also gets a C grade. South Side High rounds out the list with a C-plus and offers a new program called Freshman Schools of Success, which connects freshmen with trades and skill-based businesses.Flooding in Fort Wayne

Residents can buy groceries at Kroger, pick up fast food and fill up the gas tank in one afternoon.
