Residents tend to stay in this convenient suburb
Eight miles northeast of downtown Fort Wayne, Hillsboro has a certain hold on those who live there. “People who come here tend to stay here — many even grew up here and come back,” says Jane Yoder, a Fort Wayne Realtor with RE/MAX Results. “I’ve seen young families stay in a house in this neighborhood for 20 years.”
A variety of housing styles and nearby shopping, dining and parkland account a lot of the attraction, she said. The Hillsboro addition, built between 1979 and 1983, comprises the neighborhood’s single-family homes and most of its real estate. Condos can be found at the Communities of Chadwick, a small complex built in the 1990s. The newest addition, Rothman Villas, began building duplex- and ranch-style villas in 2019. So even when life changes prompt a change in housing needs, a short move within the neighborhood is often possible.
