Traditional, split-level and ranch-styles are set on large lots
Kern Valley was developed primarily between the 1970s and 1990s, and house styles vary between Traditionals, split-levels and ranch-styles. Lots here are large and well-maintained. The sidewalks throughout Kern Valley typically were built on one side of the street, and tall trees are common. “It’s your typical suburb,” says France, “with a very quiet atmosphere and family appeal.” Kern Valley homes tend to have three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and are usually priced between $200,000 and $275,000.Kreager Park draws visitors from around the city
Jehl Park is under a mile from the neighborhood. This park has basketball and tennis courts, a colorful playground and a multiuse field. Kreager Park is closer, though it attracts users from around the city and is known for its sprawling playgrounds, baseball diamonds, tennis courts and paved walking trails. “Kreager Park is absolutely the main draw to the neighborhood,” says France. The park borders Kern Valley to the south; homes on Regina Drive overlook it from their backyards, but the drive can be a little meandering. It's about a 2-mile drive to River Road via Maysville. On the park’s south end, the trail system meets the Rivergreenway, a city-wide multiuse trail that traces the Maumee River shoreline.Snider High School offers a robust biomedical sciences program

For groceries and other everyday essentials, residents can drive 2 miles northwest to the corner of Maplecrest Road and East State Boulevard to reach a Kroger in the Georgetown Square shopping center. Nearby is an Anytime Fitness and the Georgetown branch of the Allen County Public Library. The bustling shopping centers surrounding offer fast-food classics such as Wendy’s and Hardee’s, as well as local establishments like Cebolla’s Mexican Grill and Miyabi Sushi & Asian Cuisine. Top’s Tavern, a quarter-mile north, serves classic American diner-style food with a full bar, and hosts nightly karaoke and dancing.Getting downtown is simple from Kern Valley
Emily Ewing, a Realtor with North Eastern Group Realty, calls Fort Wayne a 15-minute city. “Pretty much anywhere in the city and outlying suburbs can be reached in a quarter hour,” she says. “it’s one of the best things about Fort Wayne.”This neighborhood doesn’t have public transportation readily available; although the Fort Wayne Citilink bus system operates close to the city center, it doesn’t run directly through Kern Valley. But with downtown just a 15-to-20-minute drive away, plus tons of shopping centers nearby, Kern Valley is anything but inconvenient.
