Peaceful suburbs are just northeast of downtown Fort Wayne

With a lofty canopy of oaks and yards packed with pine trees, Loften Woods lives up to its name. Homes peek out from behind the branches in an assortment of colors and finishes. “Loften Woods was more of an experiment of what a builder could do here in the 1970s, so the homes are all unique,” says Edmond Jemison, a real estate broker with Proper Homes LLC, who sold his first home in this neighborhood. A community association coordinates events and contests that highlight creative gardens and holiday decorations. The neighborhood is close to highways and bus stops, which offer quick routes to such commercial centers as downtown Fort Wayne, 6 miles away. Children benefit from nearby schools and an accessible playground at Kreager Park. And with Georgetown Square just up the street, residents are never more than a few minutes away from grabbing groceries or dining out.

Spacious, single-family homes with character are found in Loften Woods

In Loften Woods, houses come in several styles. Single-story ranch-style properties with half-timbering details can be found alongside Colonial Revivals and split-levels with wide front porches. “These homes have a lot of character, including built-in bookshelves and finished basements,” Jemison says. Although Loften Woods houses tend to have more square footage than homes in surrounding neighborhoods, homes here are priced on par with them. Jemison says this is likely to change in the future. “Loften Woods has risen in price quite a bit. Even with the market changing, we’re still seeing cash offers over asking,” he says. Buyers can expect to find 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom homes listed for around $200,000, while properties with nearly 4,000 square feet are listed closer to $350,000.
