A thriving community around North Anthony Boulevard
Just across the river from Fort Wayne’s growing downtown, North Anthony is home to a close-knit residential neighborhood sprawled along walkable streets on either side of the titular North Anthony Boulevard. “North Anthony is very much a front-porch community,” says Patrick Gillan, a local Realtor and broker of The Antrim Group Fort Wayne who lives just outside the neighborhood. “There’s a sense of community that isn’t the same or replicable in newer subdivisions. It’s an older, classic and very family-oriented pocket. People feel genuine responsibility for their community and ownership of their homes.” In addition, residents enjoy proximity to ample green space, local schools, local businesses and two major employers, Parkview Health and Purdue University Fort Wayne.

“Desirable old homes”
Several neighborhoods are folded into the larger community of North Anthony, such as Kensington, Pemberton and Randallia. “In between State Boulevard and Lake Avenue, on Kensington, that’s the sweet spot for beautiful, older homes,” Gillan says. “Kensington has a lot of desirable old homes. South of Lake and north of State, homes and lots get smaller, more affordable and modest.” Most residences in North Anthony were constructed between the late 1910s and ‘30s. Common early-century architectural styles seen here include classic American Foursquares, steep-gabled Tudor Revivals and Colonial Revivals. Midcentury ranch-style homes can be found along the community’s leafy, sidewalk-lined streets as well. Overall list prices range from $129,000 to $362,000. “It’s a very affordable area in Fort Wayne, but even relative to the rest of the country, it’s affordable,” Gillan says. “There’s always demand.”

Freshman success at North Side High
North Anthony residents are served by Fort Wayne Community Schools. Students can start their K-12 journey minutes from home at Forest Park Elementary, rated C-plus on Niche, before moving on to Lakeside Middle, rated C and located right in the neighborhood. North Side High, rated B-minus, is the last stop on this academic line. Its campus lies on the bank of the St. Joseph River and will soon be home to The Freshman Schools of Success, a 3DE model program to aid first-year students in launching their high school careers.
Private schooling is another popular choice for North Anthony residents. “A lot of families move to the neighborhood because of proximity to St. Jude Catholic Church and School,” Gillan says. “Then there’s Concordia Lutheran High School. It’s well-established and another reason people might choose to live in the North Anthony.”

Stop and smell the roses at Lakeside Park
“Lakeside Park and Rose Garden, oh my gosh, I love it,” Gillan says. “The rose garden is beautiful, and there’s a park area where kids can play.” Lakeside Park is about 26 acres of recreational amenities and tranquil scenery. There's always something to do there, from summertime fishing in the lake to ice skating in the winter. One of Fort Wayne’s major civic achievements, the Rivergreenway, runs along North Anthony’s south side. It connects 15 parks, featuring 25 miles of well-kept trails and spectacular views along the St. Marys, St. Joseph and Maumee Rivers. Celebrating Fort Wayne's love of baseball, the Daryl B. Cobin Memorial Park is home to the Carrington Field baseball diamond, the official playing field of the Northside High School baseball team and the Fort Wayne Baseball Association.

Sweet treats Oh Five Scoop Shop
“North Anthony is mostly residential, but there’s a great mix of light retail,” Gillan says. “North on North Anthony, toward the college campus, there’s a little commercial area with an outstanding coffee shop there that’ll be your number one if you’re a coffee snob like me. It’s called the Old Crown.” Closer to the neighborhood, Oh Five Scoop Shop is another local favorite and the bimonthly meeting place for the North Anthony Community Association. As for getting a bite, Lakeside Cafe’s always bustling with regulars. Its homestyle cuisine is popular for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Grocery shopping is done either east or west on State Boulevard at a local Kroger.
