A multifaceted suburb close to Downtown Fort Wayne
In the heart of southeastern Fort Wayne, Rudisill Plaza connects directly to a multi-faceted park with a deep link to nearby residents. “It’s a little tucked away when you’re looking at Fort Wayne,” says Realtor Nancey Weaver of Keller Williams Fort Wayne. “I grew up going to McMillen Park. Fort Wayneians have a lot of memories about spending time there.” Aside from its proximity to a center of passive and active recreation, the neighborhood is full of mid-century homes along sidewalk-lined streets. First-time home buyers who can handle a fixer-upper but don’t want to be too far from downtown are among Rudisill Plaza's most frequent customers.

McMillen Park and its amenities
McMillen Park is literally in some residents’ backyards and about a third-mile from the farthest homes. Even those who don’t live in Rudisill Plaza have fond memories. “A lot of people who grew up on the south side of Fort Wayne spent a lot of time at McMillen Park,” says Weaver. “There used to be an ice rink and a root beer stand not far from there; another kind of nostalgic thing.” The outdoor pool, tennis and basketball courts draw residents from all over. A par-65 golf course spans the easternmost side of the area, wrapping around the grounds of McMillen Park and McMillen Park Community Center. The latter offers additional amenities, including a gymnasium and outdoor playground.

Ranch-style homes and bungalows in Rudisill Plaza
East Rudisill Boulevard forms the backbone of the neighborhood's streets, leading directly to the entrance of McMillen Park. Being close to the park has its advantages, but a little noise can also be expected, which is why First Street dubs the community “active” for its sound score. Narrow sidewalks run parallel to the streets and alongside decorative oaks of different ages. Single-family homes built in the 1950s and '60s give the neighborhood a mid-century vibe. Classic bungalows and ranch-styles are common, with the occasional split-level appearing from street to street. Buyers can expect to snag a three-bedroom starter home for between $50,000 and $175,000.

A couple of local restaurants dot the neighborhood's outskirts. One is Charlow's Grill, a no-frills restaurant with a menu of favorites ranging from catfish sandwiches to Philly cheesesteaks. Another spot sits half a block away: RMY’s Restaurant. Although it may not look like much from the outside, this tiny kitchen is well-known for to-go boxes of fried chicken and sides. The area’s thoroughfare and commercial corridor, U.S. 27, lies about 2 miles due west of the neighborhood. Along this highway are various fast-food spots alongside retailers such as Walmart, Kroger and Aldi.
