Suburban community meets city energy in Tamarack
In Fort Wayne, the small community of Tamarack is well-known for its curb appeal. “The neighborhood has a great reputation for this side of Fort Wayne,” says Jay Price, a local Realtor who works alongside his father, Matthew, as part of the Price Team at Mike Thomas Associates. With many years of experience in the area, Price says that Tamarack’s attention to detail, cleanliness and care make this area more desirable than neighboring communities that don’t prioritize upkeep. “The houses are good quality, the lawns are well-maintained, and that makes the real estate sell very quickly,” Price says. But suburban comforts aren’t the only draws for this northeast Fort Wayne neighborhood. Shopping centers, universities and entertainment venues are all just a short drive away, allowing residents to benefit from city conveniences without the accompanying traffic. On the weekends, locals can catch performances at Summit City Comedy Club and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Center. Residents also enjoy practicing their swings during morning tee times at Shoaff Park’s golf course. As an established neighborhood surrounded by retail, dining and education centers, Tamarack offers homebuyers a city lifestyle without sacrificing a quiet suburban experience.
Tamarack’s curb appeal
Most of the homes in Tamarack were built on modest grassy lots between the late 1950s and early 1970s, resulting in an abundance of minimalist ranch-style homes and L-shaped ramblers. Colonial Revival influences are common, with many homes featuring side-gabled roofs, second-story overhangs and symmetrical windows. Wide sidewalks border neat lawns and manicured gardens, adding a pop of color to the walkable streets. “Homes here have a good build quality with decent floor plans that are still desirable today, and it’s all very reasonably priced,” Price says, noting that buyers can expect to see listings for three-bedroom homes between $200,000 and $300,000. “Tamarack is definitely a neighborhood that will appreciate well in relation to other areas,” he says.

Spanning more than 180 acres, Shoaff Park has been a community staple for outdoor recreation since 1955. This wooded park features a splash pad, playground, tennis courts and fields for baseball and soccer, as well as a paved walking trail that loops around an 18-hole golf course. About 3 miles southwest, Johnny Appleseed Park welcomes visitors year-round with its trails, campgrounds and St. Joseph River access. In September, the park also hosts the annual Johnny Appleseed Festival, a free, family-friendly outdoor event with games, a farmers market and historical demonstrations.

Tamarack residents enjoy easy access to major highways without any of the accompanying noise and traffic. Interstates 69 and 469 are just a few miles away, so “it’s an easy commute to a lot of major employers around town,” Price says.
