Despite its name, Tanbark Trails isn’t a secluded neighborhood with pathways cut through deep woods. Instead, this suburban pocket touches Interstate 469, taking residents southwest for their downtown commutes. “It’s a great location because there are shops and restaurants nearby and you can get to everything else in about 15 minutes, but the neighborhood still feels quiet,” says Realtor Jesus Nino of the Douglass Home Team. The area is also known for its larger, more tranquil residential lots and well-kept streets.
Affordable ranch and split-level homes
Homes in Tanbark Trails sit along gently curving streets that end in cul-de-sacs with small but neatly landscaped islands in the center. Sidewalks are wide enough for a stroll while enjoying the shade of the mature oak trees. “When it’s warm out, you’ll see lots of neighbors walking around. It’s pretty peaceful,” says Nino. The 1980s and '90s-era homes reflect a variety of architecture, with ranch- and split-level styles being the most common. Homes with Tudor flairs or more modern features like asymmetrical roofs appear every few lots or so, as do stone accents and more unusual touches like all-wood siding. “Affordability is a factor out there, and it looks like the lots all have at least a third of an acre,” says Realtor Warren Barnes of North Eastern Group Realty. Prices typically range from $215,000 to $300,000.
