The excitement of Downtown Fort Wayne gives way to a gentle hum in Westfield. The community offers a wealth of outdoor recreation along the St. Marys River, including trails, parks and places to go kayaking. Outdoor recreation on and around the St Marys River
When it comes to the outdoors, Westfield has plenty to love. “Fort Wayne, in general, offers outstanding outdoor recreation throughout all four seasons,” says Cory Allen, a Fort Wayne Realtor with The Regan and Ferguson Group. He’s been assisting homebuyers in the area for over 15 years. “The city has intentionally embraced the three rivers that we have here.” St. Marys River runs right along the side of Westfield, and you can take in riverside views along the St. Marys Pathway, an 8-mile trail along the city’s extensive greenway loop. The neighborhood's pocket green space Study Park is where locals can shoot hoops on the basketball court. Nearby Swinney Park has a playground, disc golf and waterside stops for fishing. Allen says that kayaking is also a huge pastime, regardless of where you end up in the city, due to its easy accessibility to several rivers.

Traditional suburban homes line Westfield's streets
A walk along the sidewalks in Westfield will take you past homes with vintage vibes built between 1920 and 1970. Common architectural styles include classic bungalows, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes. “Fort Wayne, in general, sits in a bubble. We don’t see huge dips and valleys or super highs. It’s a stable place for real estate," says Heather Regan, co-owner and Realtor with Regan and Ferguson Group. “Your dollar goes a lot farther in Fort Wayne than most places around the country.” Renovated homes in Westfield usually sell between the low $100,000s to the mid-$200,000s, but investment properties can absolutely sell for much lower.

Shopping and dining are a vibe at Electric Works' Union Street Market
Westfield’s spot next to West Central and downtown Fort Wayne means you’re never far from locally owned restaurants and shops, and close enough for just a short bike ride or drive. Allen points out how close the neighborhood is to Electric Works, a multiuse dining, shopping and housing area that has become extremely popular with locals. “The recently revitalized Electric Works campus is a major highlight,” he says. “The General Electric campus closed in 2015 and went through a $300 million transformation.”
Eateries at Electric Works include:
Crane Bar, an upbeat sports bar where you can catch a game along with a good beer
Pasta di Guy, offering fresh and traditional Italian dishes
The Berry, an ice cream stand that uses seasonal ingredients
While at Electric Works, you can buy locally sourced produce at Plowshares at the Market, an agricultural cooperative. Commercial chains like Save A Lot and George’s International Market cater to all other grocery needs.
Westfield residents can dine at Pikoso Burrito Co. and O-Cha Thai, at Union Street Market.
