Rural-feeling suburbia by Jefferson Pointe
Westwood's early- and mid-20th-century residences sit on oversized lots with such woodsy flora that residents can hardly tell they're less than 5 miles from downtown Fort Wayne. This lush enclave sits off a major road, minutes from Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center, a retail mecca. "Properties do not come up for sale often here," says Mark Dippold, a Fort Wayne Realtor with Coldwell Banker who has been selling homes in the city for over 30 years. "Most of the residents have lived there 15 or 20 years; people don't move away, really. It's a very desirable community. The properties have an estate feel, with multiple-acre lots and bigger houses. There's no noise in that community at all."

Early and midcentury charm on large lots
While some properties in Westwood were initially constructed in 1900, most homes here date back to the 1930s, '40s and '50s, giving the area early midcentury vibes, blending quaint ranch-style houses, historic Colonial Revivals and newer Minimal Traditional architecture. Typically, this eclecticism would lend heavily to a diverse array of curbside appeals, but the large half-acre, acre and multiacre lots in the neighborhood create a rural-feeling suburban streetscape with big front yards and long driveways that are shaded under leafy canopies in the spring and summer. Come fall, this streetscape transforms with yellows, reds and oranges. While houses can still be seen from the road, there's more privacy in this neck of the woods than in surrounding suburbs. All of this contributes to prices that are a bit higher than those found in neighboring communities. List prices range from $158,000 to $625,000.

FWCC membership has its perks
While there are no parks in Westwood proper, plenty of green and recreational spaces closer than 5 miles away. Noll Park is the closest, located within walking distance of many homes in the neighborhood, with picnic-perfect spots and plenty of shade. "Fort Wayne, in general, has a ton of parks," Dippold says. "Sweeney Park's close. That one has tennis courts. Foster Park isn't too far away, either. There's also a public golf course there." Local golfers around these parts, however, will most likely head to Fort Wayne Country Club, also known as the FWCC. "Fort Wayne has three country clubs, but the FWCC is the oldest and most well-known. Very popular. Many in this area have memberships." Originally established in 1908, this country club offers an array of amenities, from pickleball and tennis courts to rolling greens and a glittering pool.

"Shopping is nearby without being in the way," Dippold says. Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center is right in the neighborhood without bringing any noise to it. Westwood's lush streets are tucked on the south side of Jefferson Boulevard, while the mall's shops and restaurants sit north of it. Here, there are national franchise favorites like Cold Stone, Chik-fil-A, Victoria's Secret, Loft and Trader Joe's, as well as entertainment options, including a movie theater and an indoor playground for children. Local chains and eateries fan out around the mall, such as Conjure Coffee. Located right off Jefferson Boulevard toward downtown, this café is an easy stop on folks' morning commutes. Next door is a popular breakfast, lunch and dinner spot, Joanna's Family Restaurant, featuring a menu of tried-and-true American fare.
