A scenic enclave by downtown Fort Wayne
The lush, winding streets of Wildwood Park whisk residents away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Fort Wayne while keeping city living nearby. "You have some very established, mature trees there and a little park at the heart of the neighborhood," says Realtor Mark Dippold of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group. "It's pretty. People really know their neighbors.” Visitors might find it difficult to believe that just a couple of blocks away from these walkable streets are big box stores and restaurants. For some, that’s one of the many perks of living in Wildwood Park.

Midcentury charmers in Wildwood Park
Pines, oaks and maples screen some of Wildwood Park’s homes from street view. Neat sidewalks run parallel, with lampposts installed every few hundred feet. Manicured, half-acre lawns catch the eye, distancing homes from the edge of the street. “Homes here are a little more economical than those in Westwood, but the location is still phenomenal, especially for those who like older homes,” says Dippold. “There are lots of traditional three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes built in the 1950s and '40s.” Though many are mid-century homes, some date back to the 1910s. Cape Cods, traditional and ranch-styles are popular. These four-bedroom homes typically sell between $185,000 to $350,000. A garden-style apartment complex rents out units along Ardmore Avenue, giving prospective residents an alternative to home ownership.

A day out at Rockhill Park or the Country Club
Rockhill Park is immediately across Freeman Street to the east, reachable on foot or bicycle at a signalized crosswalk at Portage Boulevard. The park's recreational ballfield, basketball court, walking paths and playground are near Rivergreenway, a city-managed trail system that connects to Swinney Park and Towpath Trail. Just south of Rockhill Park is ASH Centre, run by the World Baseball Academy. The sports complex hosts baseball and softball tournaments and training camps along with indoor soccer, Dippold says. The complex attracts thousands of families each year.
Local golfers, tennis players and pickleball players can explore membership options with the Fort Wayne Country Club, which has been around for more than a century. The FWCC's pool is a popular summer attraction, while its tennis courts are open year-round. Noll Park occupies a wooded 9-acre wedge, donated to the city in 1974, between Washington Road and Taylor Street.

Water quality issues in Fort Wayne
In July 2024, the city filed a federal lawsuit claiming more than 20 companies polluted city wastewater with polyfluoroalkyls, so-called "forever chemicals'' that remain in the environment. The city's suit doesn't claim its drinking water was affected, but rather the substances exist in released wastewater, which can affect downstream drinking water. The suit claims testing of released wastewater costs the city about $10,000 a year.
