Buyers look to Bonnie Brae for character, space and community

Bonnie Brae, a residential community on the north side of Fort Worth, attracts buyers with its larger lots, lower housing prices and eclectic mix of dining options. With many generational families in the neighborhood, residents here enjoy living in a tight-knit community. “What I love about that area is that, yes, it’s in Fort Worth, but it’s a little pocket,” says Realtor Lisa Lee with Coldwell Banker Realty. “It’s so underrated.” The neighborhood’s older homes, set on larger lots, combine character and space, making Bonnie Brae the ideal choice for buyers who may be deciding between a city or suburban house.

Older homes with character offer lower prices

Older ranch-style homes and bungalows line the streets of Bonnie Brae, with some New Traditional homes mixed in. “In that area, there are not a lot of renovations that’ve happened,” Lee says. “That’s what’s kind of neat about it. You don’t find homes with mailboxes in the front door anymore.” She says that buyers look to this neighborhood for affordable housing and larger lot sizes. Homes are well spaced out on sidewalk-lined streets. Recent sales prices range from $120,000 to $335,000. The neighborhood’s average home value is much lower than the average for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Lee says there are many generational families in the neighborhood, with many buyers moving in because they grew up in Bonnie Brae or have family there.

Fort Worth ISD gets a B-minus from Niche

Fort Worth Independent School District gets an overall B-minus grade from Niche. The district offers school choice, enabling students to apply to attend specific schools. Bonnie Brae Elementary receives a C, Riverside Middle School gets a C-minus, and Amon Carter-Riverside High School gets a C. Academic opportunities at Amon Carter-Riverside High School include P-TECH and JROTC. Lee says that the community rallies around Carter Riverside High School’s sports to celebrate big wins, such as the football team’s recent entry into the playoffs, which broke a 30-year drought. “Everybody’s really celebrating that,” she says. Bonnie Brae is also home to the Riverside Applied Learning Center, a Gold Seal Choice School that enrolls elementary students and offers real-world applications of classroom material, as well as enrichment clubs to engage students’ interests. The school gets a C-plus grade from Niche.

Residents visit neighborhood parks and the DFW Car & Toy Museum

Bonnie Brae Park is a small neighborhood park with a playground, basketball court and picnic tables. Springdale Park is another small park with a playground less than a mile away. Little Fossil Park, located 1 mile east, features a paved walking trail along a creek, baseball and softball fields and a playground. About 2 miles away, the DFW Car & Toy Museum, Texas’s largest car museum with over 200 cars, was rated the top thing to do in Fort Worth by TripAdvisor and offers free admission daily.

Locals enjoy authentic cuisines and anticipate an upcoming H Mart

Lee says a highlight of Bonnie Brae is its diversity of authentic cuisines. Sikhay Thai Lao Restaurant & Boba Tea & Pho is a family-owned restaurant serving authentic Thai and Lao dishes. Asiannights Lao-Thai Cuisine & Bar similarly serves Thai and Lao food and has a bar. Anh Long Kitchen is a small, authentic Vietnamese restaurant serving pho. Ocean Seafood Market sells fresh fish daily and operates as a wholesaler for nearly 200 restaurants and markets across Dallas-Fort Worth. Currently, the closest supermarket is El Rancho Supermercado, 2 miles away. In spring 2026, Tarrant County’s first H Mart, a popular Asian grocery chain, will open 3 miles from Bonnie Brae. The grocery store will open alongside a large shopping center featuring more than 40 restaurants and retailers. “It’s going to be a huge attraction for that area,” Lee says.

Interstate 35 West connects to downtown Fort Worth

Less than 2 miles away, Interstate 35 West connects directly to downtown Fort Worth. Trinity Metro bus stops are conveniently located in the neighborhood, providing residents with an easy way to get around town. The nearest hospital, Medical City North Hills, is about 6 miles away. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is approximately 20 miles away.
