Changing urban neighborhood next to Lake Arlington and the Interstate 820 loop
Between the Historic Carver Heights neighborhood and Lake Arlington sits Carver Heights East, a community changing. “It’s a neighborhood that is re-establishing,” says Dennis Miller, a Realtor with Keller Williams Lonestar DFW with 20 years of experience in the area. “It’s an affordable price to buy, so people are buying over there and renovating.” While some are improving existing properties, others are building. “There’s a lot of new construction; whole streets are getting built on,” says Cooper Conger, President of NewPad Building Company and a Realtor with VIP Realty with four years of experience in the area.
Ranch-style homes with some new construction
Homes in Carver Heights are typically ranch-style houses, usually with brick exteriors, driveways and carports. Some new construction homes are coming into parts of the neighborhood, and there are plenty of renovations of the older homes. There are also several vacant lots throughout the neighborhood, so building is an option for homebuyers to consider. When homes hit the market, they sell for between the low $100,000s and the high $200,000s. Duplexes are also available in the neighborhood and have sold for as much as $500,000. As for crime, the neighborhood received a Crime Score of 6 out of 10, higher than the national average.

Neighborhood bordered by the Interstate 820 Loop
Carver Heights East is bordered to the west by Interstate 820 Loop, giving residents easy access to the rest of the Fort Worth area. Commuters are looking at a 10-mile drive to Downtown Fort Worth and a 28-mile drive to Downtown Dallas. The Trinity Metro bus system also provides service. The nearest stop to the neighborhood is on the other side of Interstate 820 on Ramey Avenue. The nearest hospital to the neighborhood is the John Peter Smith Hospital, 7 miles away. The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is 19 miles away.
The historic basketball program at Dunbar High School
Carver Heights East students are assigned to attend schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Starting in Pre-K, children attend Maudrie Walton Elementary School before moving on to J. Martin Jacquet Middle School. Both schools earn a C grade from Niche. For high school, students attend nearby Dunbar High, which also receives a C grade. The school is known for its successful boys’ basketball team, which has won three state championships. Longtime head coach Robert Hughes was with the team for 47 years, from 1973 to 2005. During that time, he won two state championships and became the all-time winningest high school basketball coach in the country with 1,333 career wins. After he retired, his son took over coaching the program. Hughes was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. As for private school options, The Oakridge School is 3 miles from the neighborhood, serves Pre-K through 12th grade, and earns an A-plus mark from Niche.

Breakfast all day at Dixie House Cafe
Dixie House Café sits at the northernmost end of the neighborhood along Lancaster Avenue. The dinner-feel spot serves breakfast all day and burgers and sandwiches on their night menu. When customers finish their entrée, they can order one of Dixie House’s homemade pies or cakes. Right down the street is Taqueria Insurgentes, a Mexican restaurant offering anything from breakfast burritos to enchiladas. Also on Lancaster Avenue is China Express, a Chinese dine-in and takeout restaurant serving favorites like sesame chicken and fried shrimp. Fiesta Mart is 4 miles west when it's time to go grocery shopping.

Eugene McCray Park for access to Lake Arlington
Eugene McCray Park is the resident’s place for the use of Lake Arlington. Set against the backdrop of the lake that separates Fort Worth from its eastward neighbor, this park offers several activities for residents. They can walk on the path that winds its way along the shoreline or bring their kids for a fun day on the playground and swing set. The park has several picnic tables and grills for those who want to picnic with their family. The parking lot on the park's northern end has a fishing pier and a boat ramp, offering a spot for residents to start their day on the water. Bunche Park, which sits behind Dunbar High School, has multiple beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, a playground, and a walking trail. Just north is the Martin Luther King Community Center, which has an outdoor basketball court, a gymnasium and a playground and offers programs for children. Membership is free for those who are age 17 or under. William McDonald Park, south of Bunche Park, provides a walking trail through nature, a half-basketball court and a playground.
Locals can use the trails at Bunche Park for an afternoon jog or stroll.

Martin Luther King Community Center events
The Martin Luther Community Center, 1 mile from the neighborhood, holds various community events throughout the year. On Father’s Day, the center has a Drive-Thru Breakfast with donuts and juice. For Halloween, they have an event with food, games and haunted houses. The center also hosts cooking classes, game nights and athletic training classes.
