All the conveniences within blocks

With its high-end amenities and ultra-modern luxury condos, it’s hard not to see why homebuyers are attracted to a neighborhood like Downtown Fort Forth. “The Fort Worth Club is a staple downtown, ranked a top 10 private club by Business View Magazine,” says associate broker David Chicotsky with Chicotsky’s Real Estate Group at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. “The downtown is mostly condo living, lock and leave. Many owners come in for horse events at the Fort Worth Stockyards and use their condo as a personal Airbnb.” Whether part-time or full-time, residents of this highly pedestrian urban neighborhood have access to everything from parks to shopping only blocks of home.

Sundance Square District

A centerpiece of downtown is Sundance Square, a 37-square-block shopping district filled with shops, eateries, art galleries and entertainment venues. One of the most visually stunning is Bass Performance Hall, which features angel sculptures on the building’s façade and an interior dome painted to resemble the Texas sky. Another is the Chisholm Trail Mural in Sundance Square Plaza, a pedestrian area spanning two city blocks. This public art pays tribute to Fort Worth’s rich cultural roots, depicting the Chisholm Trail cattle drives of 1867. For dinner, Grace prides itself on hospitality and delicious food. Guests can dine on the outdoor terrace along Main Street, sit by the bar and enjoy craft cocktails, or sit down for a meal in the main dining area. Locals also enjoy Reata Restaurant, an Old West-themed spot serving Tex-Mex cuisine and other southwestern fare.

Security and other extras

Most properties in Downtown Fort Worth are high-rise condos and three-story brick townhouses. For high-rise residents, 24-hour security is important because many leave for weeks or months and want the assurance that their property is safe. Certain buildings offer more amenities, such as concierge service, resort-style pools, putting greens and access to hotel restaurants and bars. Many are either brand-new or updated with modern amenities like smart home systems and state-of-the-art appliances. The cost of homes in Downtown Fort Worth varies widely. “You can expect to pay anywhere from $350,000 for a loft to $2 million for a more premium condo,” Chicotsky says. “Ultra-premium condominiums are in the $5 million to $10 million range but are in short supply.” Townhouses start in the $500,000s.

From parks to premium services

The whimsical fountains of the Fort Worth Water Gardens create an intricate urban oasis and a refreshing place to relax. Popular green spaces like Burnett Park and Hyde Park contain several public art pieces, such as the Tabachin Ribbon sculpture by Mexican artist Yvonne Domenge. The Fort Worth Club is within a few blocks of these parks and offers members access to dining rooms, a fitness and wellness center and a hotel for out-of-town guests.

The Main Table

A popular event that brings the downtown community together is The Main Table, a special dinner for 500 in the middle of Main Street. Food from several downtown restaurants is served on a long table that spans three city blocks. Attendees and guests are treated to their favorite downtown chef’s offerings at over $100 per ticket.

Transportation in the city’s center

Residents can catch commuter trains to Dallas or the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport at the Fort Worth T and P Station. Amtrak trains leave from Central Station. Cyclists will find a dozen bike-sharing stations downtown, and drivers can easily access Interstate 30, which connects with Dallas (30 miles), or I-35W, which connects to Waco (100 miles) and Oklahoma City (200 miles).

Downtown schools

Schools serving downtown include Charles Nash Elementary, which scored a C from Niche; Riverside Middle, a C-minus school; and Carter-Riverside High, a C-plus school. Students can also opt to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, a 6-12 charter school, one of the highest-rated high schools in the state. It received an A from Niche.

Safety, police and ambassadors

According to the CAP index, Downtown Fort Worth has a crime score of 10, the highest possible. Crime and safety are important considerations in this area. To guard against this trend, the city will relocate its police department to the recently renovated City Hall building. A local community organization has also introduced “Downtown Ambassadors,” identifiable security personnel who walk and bike the area to assist residents and provide visibility.
