Eastland
Modest homes and newer constructions
Minimal traditional and ranch-style homes fill the quiet Eastland streets, with many being mid-century homes that were recently renovated. Homes are built close to one another, giving the neighborhood a more urban setting. Modest houses needing renovations can range from $122,000 to $165,000, while newer single-story houses cost around $180,000 to $260,000. Larger, new-construction homes with modern features typically cost between $280,000 and $340,000. Narrow roads include space for street parking but limit space for vehicles passing through. Trees and shrubbery dot the neighborhood streets.Athletic excellence at Dunbar High School
Students can start at Christene C. Moss Elementary, which gets a C grade from Niche. The school is named after a former school board member. Jacquet Middle School receives a C-minus from Niche. The school is named after James Martin Jacquet, an educator and principal who served the Fort Worth Independent School District for over 50 years. Dunbar High School earns a C-plus from Niche and is known for its boys' basketball program, winning three state championships. Former coach and basketball hall-of-famer Robert Hughes is the winningest high school coach in the country.Sports fields and walking trails at Village Creek Park
Eastland has several parks and recreation opportunities nearby. William McDonald Park sits on the neighborhood's eastern side, featuring a colorful playground, walking trails and an open sports field for softball and baseball in front of a forested area. Village Creek Park is just off Highway 287 and has 24 acres of green space. Activities at the park range from playing on the chess boards to competitions on the sports fields. A walking trail surrounds the park and provides a lengthy pathway for a challenging run or a brisk walk. For indoor activities, the Eugene McCray Community Center has a gym, a computer lab and afterschool programs for children.Cash only at H & J Hamburgers
Several local shops and restaurants are on East Berry Street, the neighborhood's northern border. Stormie Monday Café serves authentic soul food classics, receiving high praise for its oxtails and collard greens. Delicias Alcemara Restaurant is a Tex-Mex eatery offering tacos, tamales and other favorites. H & J Hamburgers is a cash-only burger stop near 287. Patrons give the restaurant glowing reviews about the baskets and seasonings. Hot Shot Food Store is a modest convenience store selling hot food, like hamburgers and tater tots. Fiesta Mart supermarket has an extensive selection of Latin foods. Walmart Supercenter sits just west of 287.Access to highways 287 and 820
Like much of the Metroplex, Eastland is a driver-centric neighborhood, offering little for public transportation. "You have some buses and the TRE, but most people choose to drive," Hassard says. Highways 287 and the 820 Loop border the neighborhood and offer easy access into Dallas or Downtown Fort Worth, about 5 miles away. Travelers head northeast for 21 miles to DFW International Airport. John Peter Smith Hospital is the closest medical facility, about 4 miles away.
