Far Southwest Fort Worth blends quiet living with city access
Just off US-377 and surrounding Benbrook Lake, Far Southwest Fort Worth is on the outskirts of the city but still a quick drive away. “The homes out here provide people the chance to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city,” says Greg Willis, a broker with TexasRealEstateSavings.com, who has worked in real estate for nearly 30 years, including 19 in the Fort Worth market. “You get a chance to get some land, and while you have neighbors, they are not on top of you, but you are still about 10 miles outside of downtown.
New homes and established estates offer a range of price points
As people look to get outside the city, multiple developments continue to pop up, and there is a chance to buy new construction properties. The theme is that buyers have choices in the area, from modern ranches on sloping properties to Millennium Mansions in tight subdivisions to newly built contemporary Craftsman homes in communities with similar designs. New construction homes start at around $640,000, while larger established homes start at around $800,000 and rise from there. “The market has really slowed down because of the interest rates. We see fewer people that have to get loans trying to buy, while those who can spend cash are still participating,” Willis says.
Benbrook Middle-High serves grades 6–12 on a shared campus
Children attend the Fort Worth Independent School District, which scores a B-minus on Niche and has a 17-to-1 student-teacher ratio. One potential school path is Benbrook Elementary and then Benbrook Middle-High School, whose campus serves Grades 6-12. The elementary school scores a B-minus on Niche, while the middle-high school receives a C-plus. Benbrook Middle-High School opened as a middle school in 2011 before becoming a mixed middle and high school in 2014.
Benbrook Lake offers beaches, boat ramps and hiking trails
A reservoir of the Trinity River, Benbrook Lake is a draw for water lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Depending on their location, residents can access the water at multiple day-use parks that are maintained by the city of Fort Worth and offer different features. On the west side, Holiday Park not only features boat launch pads and areas for swimming and fishing, but the area around the water also has winding trails for either horseback riding or hiking. Similarly, on the south side of the lake, Mustang Park features a sandy beach where visitors can hop in the water, fish or set sail from one of the boat launches.
Whole Foods, Costco and Hulen Mall are a short drive away
On the outskirts of town, residents can drive into Benbrook, where they can take advantage of Whole Foods for groceries, buy in bulk from Costco, or visit the still thriving Hulen Mall with multiple retailers, including American Eagle. While in Benbrook, enjoy a meal from Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House, which has burgers and comfort food and walls decked out in Texas-themed memorabilia.
US-377 connects residents to downtown and beyond
Formed initially as a short connector of Fort Worth and Denton, US-377 now extends from Mexico to Oklahoma. The road allows residents to get into downtown Fort Worth for work or entertainment destinations such as Sundance Square Plaza, which features boutiques, shops and restaurants.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
