A deep-rooted community in Southside undergoing some changes
Glencrest, a long-established community of Fort Worth, is undergoing a few changes. "Many homes in this area have been completely revamped," says resident and broker Paula Alcala of Ponderosa and Associates. Alcala has been selling homes across the region since she moved to Fort Worth in 2007. "I just signed a lease with a tenant who lived in the same house over 18 years ago. It's been completely renovated since then, but she was excited to return home to raise her son. She called as soon as we put up the sign." Alcala emphasizes Glencrest's strong sense of community. "Residents have a lot of pride in their homeownership and community. There's an apparent sense of familiarity here." And as locals renovate their homes, the city of Fort Worth has invested in its parks. Cobb Park's master plan brought new amenities that invited a wave of community interest. Nowadays, the park is busy with Glencrest locals. "You better get there early on Easter Sunday, or any holiday, because it's going to be packed full of people," Alcala says.
Some homeowners here have the benefit of culdesacs for their homesteads.

Early 20th century bungalows and ranch-styles
Housing mainly comprises traditional ranch-style homes and cottages from the 1950s. A few homes are from the '30s and '40s. Current residents and new buyers are renovating their homes since most are over 50 years old. Homes cost between $150,000 and $400,000, with the larger and more recently renovated homes priced toward the higher end of the scale. Most houses feature between 1,500 and 2,000 square feet with two to three bedrooms. And lots are slightly bigger on this side of town. Several properties offer ample yard space, featuring just over a quarter acre. The area has few sidewalks, but residents still enjoy early evening or morning strolls.
The newer subdivision off of S Riverside Drive is an example of continuing growth in the area.
This area tends to feature more mature and established homesites.

A day at the renovated Cobb Park
Residents head to Cobb Park to enjoy a day outside. The Belcher Land and Mortgage Company dedicated 125 acres along Sycamore Creek to Fort Worth in 1921. Though it's been around for over 100 years, the city's lack of investment led to community disinterest. Thanks to a 2008 master plan that aimed to pour nearly $26 million into its now 225 acres, Cobb Park has experienced a renaissance. The plan included tree canopy thinning, a parking lot and pedestrian bridge development, new monument signs, security lighting and a new playground. Today, Cobb Park features basketball courts where local athletes shoot hoops, several playgrounds for the kids and a multi-use backstop.
Cobb Park is the crown jewel of Mitchell Boulevard, featuring nature trails and sports fields.
Locals can find playgrounds, basketball courts, and picnic grounds at Cobb Park.

Shopping at Renaissance Square
Renaissance Square features several big-box stores for grocery and retail shopping. Walmart Supercenter is a convenient spot to grab groceries, while Marshalls and Ross offer a few options to look for a new outfit. El Rio Grande Latin Market, on the neighborhood's west end, offers another option for grocery shopping. There are a few chain restaurants along East Berry Street, like Raising Cane's and Jack in the Box, but residents mostly leave Glencrest for dinner out of the house. Pollo Regio is a popular Mexican restaurant across Mansfield Highway. The Monterrey-based chain is known for its charcoal-grilled chicken and regio platters.
Renaissance Square has multiple shopping options such as Ross, Marshalls, and Shoe Carnival.
Pollo Regio serves all manner of grilled chicken platters, great with a bottle of Manzanita Sol.

Whiskey at The Ranch
Residents enjoy a glass of award-winning whiskey and views of the city skyline at Texas Whiskey Ranch. "It's probably one of the coolest places on that side of Fort Worth. It's a super neat place," says Vonda McNutt, broker and owner of Sandalwood Realty. McNutt has sold homes across the region for over two decades. "It's a venue, so it can be rented out, but it also has an active bar." The facility sits on the former Glen Garden Country Club and lays claim to being the largest distillery west of the Mississippi River. Visitors can tour the distillery, taste award-winning whiskey and buy a bottle to take home.

Commuters hop on Interstate 35 West or Highway 287 for a 6-mile trip north into the heart of Fort Worth. Healthcare is provided at John Peter Smith Hospital, about 4 miles away. And if locals need to catch a flight, they typically head to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, about 25 miles away.
