Hallmark Camelot
Affordable midcentury moderns compared to Dallas
Hallmark Camelot’s wavy gridded streets are predominantly filled with midcentury modern ranch-style homes, with a few colonials and modern properties sprinkled in. Most homes were built in the late 1960s and ‘70s and range from $225,000 to $348,000. “The main draw is affordability,” says Robbie Edwards, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Fort Worth. “There are a lot of houses for under $300,000, and that’s hard to find here.” Newcomers will find three-bedroom, 1,200-square-foot homes on the lowest end and four-bedroom, 2,000-square-foot houses on the highest end. Most homes have multi-car garages and are within walking distance of both parks. Winchester Park is a tract housing addition built toward the tail end of the early 2000s. This subdivision has a homeowner’s association and monthly HOA fees, whereas the rest of the area does not. “You can still find nicely done remodeled homes for a good price here,” says Austin Toussaint, Realtor with Pioneer DFW Realty. “Overall, there’s stuff you can get into in this area for a little cheaper than Dallas.”Mom and pops scattered throughout community
There are plenty of shopping and dining options on Altamesa Boulevard along the neighborhood’s northern side and Interstate 35W, which runs along the neighborhood’s eastern side. Mariscos El Wero is a popular spot for authentic Mexican specialties and seafood, like aguachile – a cold spicy dish with marinated shrimp – and carne asada tacos. Joe’s Pizza and Pasta is a no-frills spot for classic Italian dishes, and locals rave about its stromboli and New York-style pizza. Barbecue purists don’t have to go far, as the family-owned Cousins BBQ is only 7 miles west. A staple in the community for over 30 years and named one of the 50 best barbecue places in Texas, the BBQ joint is known for its slow-smoked meats by the pound, heaping Texas-style trays of brisket, jalapeno cheddar sausage links and southern sides like cowboy beans, Texas street corn and bacon potato salad. The neighborhood’s Dollar General provides essentials, and residents can grab groceries at Winco Foods, 1-mile south of Hallmark-Camelot. For more shopping, La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth lies just 4 miles north of the neighborhood, offering over 200 stores, a movie theater and live entertainment.Sports reign supreme at local parks
The neighborhood has several parks, including Camelot Park, a community favorite. The 5-acre green space offers basketball, ballfields, a playground and trails. On the neighborhood’s east side, Hallmark Park has similar offerings with a couple more sports facilities, so neighborhood kids can toss the ball around on the baseball field or scrimmage on the soccer fields. Aside from its sporty offerings, it’s also a rather scenic spot with a creek running through it, perfect for setting up a picnic nearby. Residents can easily reach Greenbriar Park, only 2 miles north, for more outdoor recreation. The 50-acre park offers a fishing pond, two soccer fields, a disc golf course and a community center with programs for all ages.Excellent extracurriculars at Hallmark-Camelot schools
Local students have a variety of public school options within a 5-mile radius of the neighborhood, beginning their education at E. Ray Elementary in the neighborhood. Part of the Everman Independent School District, E. Ray earned a C on Niche and offers an after-school enrichment program. From there, students can attend Crowley Middle and North Crowley High School in the Candleridge neighborhood, just west of the neighborhood. The middle school earned a C, and the high school, which offers basketball and cross-country teams and student job fairs, holds a B-minus.A tight-knit neighborhood association
The Hallmark-Camelot-Highland Terrace Neighborhood Association has been at the helm of keeping the community close for over 30 years. The organization hosts an annual ice cream social in June, holiday lights contests and a regular Cowtown Great American Cleanup event at local parks.10 miles from Downtown Fort Worth
Getting around the area is convenient, with Interstate 35W right next to the neighborhood’s east side. Downtown Fort Worth is 10 miles from the neighborhood and 29 miles to reach the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Residents will need a car to get around as there is no public transit nearby.
