Smaller suburban area by Interstate 35 and 20

Seven miles from downtown Fort Worth and tucked between two interstates, Highland Hills is a quiet neighborhood. “The neighborhood is well established,” says Missy Starling, who has been a real estate agent for 21 years with Coldwell Banker. “People that have been there, it's not like they move.” While the community does have a smaller section of housing in the north, most of the neighborhood consists of commercial businesses, including the headquarters for Alcon Incorporated, an eye care product company, and some industrial sections. While most of the neighborhood has been well established, the homes are also good for first-time homebuyers. “The new blood that’s coming in, it’s a perfect place to start,” says Starling. “It’s a well-kept community, it’s very close-knit.” The Highland Hills Community Center sits at the back of the residential portion and has had different clubs and organizations come through.

Ranch-style homes with large yards for pets

Most of the neighborhood consists of ranch-style homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, with mature trees shading the houses and yards. “The majority of people have dogs,” says Starling. “Something like 70% of homeowners have dogs because they have nice-sized yards.” Privacy fences of all materials cover the backyards. For ranch-style homes, prices range between $165,000 for a three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom and $275,000 for four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The streets of Highland Hills are laid out in an arched, uneven grid and partially lined by sidewalks. For the most part, homeowners’ front lawns are unfenced, and driveways are wide enough to park two cars side by side; double garages are standard as well. While most of the area is single-story, there are a few two-story homes throughout the neighborhood, with the last listed price for one being $325,000.

First through fifth graders attend Bishop Elementary School before moving to Baxter Junior High School for sixth through eighth grade. Everman Joe C. Bean High School has dual credit classes with Tarrant County College and offers CTE courses. All three schools receive a C-plus. Fort Worth ISD students begin at Harlean Beal Elementary before attending Rosemont Middle School, both of which receive a C from Niche. Oscar Dean Wyatt High School receives a C-plus and offers dual credit with local colleges. “It’s not far from Tarrant County College, it’s probably less than 10 minutes,” says Starling. “That’s also very good.”

Interchange of interstates with one bus through

Highland Hills sits at the interchange of Interstates 35 and 20. “It’s easy access to the interstate and you can just jump on 35,” says Starling. “It’s a hop, skip and a jump to convenience in the area.” Fort Worth’s Trinity Metro has one bus that goes down Oak Grove Road, and the Fort Worth Meacham International Airport is 13 miles north.

Highland Hills classes and classic holidays

The Highland Hills Community Center offers classes and programs throughout the year, including ballet and dance classes. Across Fort Worth, community centers have after-school programs, where children can be dropped off by guardians or a bus straight from the school. Within Highland Hills, “a lot of the events are with the holiday experience,” says Starling. “There’s a lot of old people who like the classics.”
