Masonic provides its residents options in a neighborhood situated about 5 miles from both Lake Arlington and downtown Fort Worth. You'll find a theme of single-story homes in this locale, following common attributes of minimal traditional, craftsman and classic Texas ranchers. There was an initial group of homes built in the 1940s-50s with more construction beginning in the 1970s. You might find the occasional updated home or even a two-story house, however they are less common in this neighborhood that sees home prices lower than the Texas average. Masonic remains a primarily residential district, as there is only one apartment complex and no townhomes or condos.
Shackleford Park stands as the only park in Masonic and features a large playground, an outdoor basketball court and open green space for activities abound. Although just outside of the neighborhood's boundaries, the local YMCA rests half a mile west. This facility hosts strength training equipment, group exercise classes, an outdoor pool and water park, an indoor walking track and a playhouse.
Masonic keeps its focus residential, so your social outings may require some travel. You do not have to venture far for your basic shopping though, as Masonic lends proximity to a few key stores. The strip mall along Renaissance Drive hosts Marshall's, Shoe Carnival and Walmart Supercenter to cover your essential items. You'll also find a few fast casual restaurants above the strip mall like Wendy's, Panda Express, or Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers.
Oaklawn Elementary School is the only public school within the neighborhood boundaries. OES offers clubs for their students to include Battle of the Books, Green Team, Music Club, and Student Council. The student-teacher ratio in this school is 15:1, equal to the state average. Students who live in Masonic belong to the Fort Worth Independent School District which offers a high school curriculum that enables students to earn their high school diploma and an associate degree from Tarrant County College.
Daily commutes are easy in this neighborhood, as Highway 287 marks the eastern border. You can also follow 287 south where it meets Loop 820 for additional travel routes. Trinity Metro's bus system operates as the public transit option for residents. There are a few stops along Miller Avenue in the east and west where Mitchell Boulevard becomes Wichita Street. Catching the bus can take you into the city if you need to connect to the train station. Masonic continues housing tenants in a residential neighborhood that offers a short trip to downtown Fort Worth or west to Lake Arlington.
