A Fort Worth suburb with budget-friendly houses and access to major employers
Get grounded at The Ranches, a Fort Worth suburb less than 20 miles from downtown. Although The Ranches neighborhood feels secluded from the rest of the Metroplex, this community of subdivisions offers easy access to the city and major attractions like Texas Motor Speedway. "There's growth here," says Realtor Bryan Edwards with eXp Realty, who has 12 years of experience. "It's mostly due to the new businesses that have moved into the area, including the Amazon fulfillment centers and the FedEx shipping airport nearby. So more and more people are moving to this side to be close to work." The community is surrounded by major industry, making The Ranches a popular area to make a home base. The Ranches comprises several subdivisions, including Lost Spurs, Lost Creek Ranch and Ranches East. Located just minutes from Roanoke and near major highways, this neighborhood offers a quiet lifestyle with daily conveniences just a quick drive away.

A mix of several New Traditional subdivisions and country estates
Houses here include brick New Traditional houses built close together in the subdivisions, mostly built between the 1990s and 2000s. The houses in the neighborhood typically feature a mixture of brick exteriors with some siding, but there are homes with stone accents. Built-in garages are standard in the neighborhood, offering privacy and security for residents, and sidewalks line most of the community streets, making it a walkable area.
The nearby areas outside the subdivisions feature ranch-style homes and modern farmhouses on large lots. Many of these homes have barns and equestrian facilities on the property. "It's more challenging to find these larger acreages for sale. It's easier and more budget-friendly to buy in a subdivision," Edwards says. Homes in the developed subdivisions will start at around $300,000 for a three-bedroom house. Buyers should expect to pay anywhere from $350,000 to $425,000 for a four-bedroom home. It's not uncommon for farmhouses with lots of land to be in the million-dollar range.
The Ranches neighborhood showcases a variety of home styles, each with its own unique charm.
Some homes in The Ranches are older farm land where livestock can spread out.

A-rated Northwest Independent School District serves families
Students attend Northwest Independent School District, which Edwards notes is getting increasing attention for its excellent academics. J Lyndall Hughes Elementary School received a B-plus overall on Niche, and John M Tidwell Middle received an A-minus. Tidwell is home to the Northwest Independent School District's only school-sponsored radio station, which students run. High schoolers attend Byron Nelson High School, which received an A. The school offers academies in biomedical sciences and culinary arts and hospitality, giving students real-world experience and allowing them to earn certifications in those industries.
Where future leaders walk the halls, Byron Nelson High School shapes tomorrow's world.

The neighborhood is close to Grapevine Lake and Lewisville Lake, both popular for boating, swimming and fishing.

Residents can head to nearby Roanoke for a bite to eat. The city has been dubbed the Unique Dining Capital of the state and is home to several popular restaurants serving everything from barbecue to Italian food to Tex-Mex. Residents can head to Hard Eight BBQ for savory smoked meats, jalapeno cream corn and blackberry cobbler. There is a Starbucks, Popeye's and Arby's near the neighborhood for something quick closer to home. For groceries, a Kroger is just south of the neighborhood.
The Ranches is just a short drive from Alliance Town Center, which offers a Cinemark movie theater and big-box retail stores like Belk, DSW and Ulta. For entertainment, Edwards mentions the community's proximity to Texas Motor Speedway. "A lot of people gather for the NASCAR and motocross races here; that's a really popular thing to do," Edwards says.
