Dolphin Bay offers homes near parks, trails and top-rated schools
Dolphin Bay is a well-established neighborhood with waterfront views, community parks and Bay Trail access. Located in Foster City, it’s known for its quiet, walkable streets, spacious homes and highly rated public schools. “Foster City was designed with lots of waterways, walking trails and parks and all the street names are water themed. It’s unique compared to the suburban areas around it,” says Realtor Jeff LaMont of Coldwell Banker, who has been working in the area for more than 40 years. The neighborhood is situated in the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula, putting residents within commuting distance of San Francisco and Silicon Valley. It’s close to major tech industry companies like Oracle and Gilead Sciences.

Quiet cul-de-sacs and low crime add to neighborhood appeal
Tree-lined streets curve through Dolphin Bay, some of which end in quiet cul-de-sacs and waterfront scenery. Traditional and ranch-style homes are a common sight here, built at the tail end of the Peninsula’s midcentury housing boom. Many residences are perched along the shores of Seal Slough, offering waterfront views from living room windows and backyard porches. Prices typically range between $1.9 million and $3.3 million. “Prices have leveled off a little bit as the interest rates have gone up, but it’s still pretty pricey,” LaMont says. The neighborhood also features several townhome communities, including Nantucket Cove, an 82-unit complex built in 1988. Townhomes generally sell for $1.3 million to $1.8 million. The neighborhood gets a low 2 out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, lower than the national average of 4.

Boothbay Park and Bay Trail offer outdoor fun for all ages
Dolphin Bay surrounds the expansive Boothbay Park, an 11-acre green space with a playground, volleyball pit, tennis courts and a picnic pavilion. Port Royal Park, tucked away at the neighborhood’s southern edge, has a swimming pool, soccer fields and plenty of walking trails. It’s an access point for the Bay Trail, a regional trail that will eventually run the length of the entire bay. At more than 350 miles, it’s one of the state’s longest urban trails. Also close by is Belmont Sports Complex, where soccer and baseball fields host games for seasonal youth sports teams. Boat enthusiasts can harbor their watercraft at nearby marinas like Coyote Point and Westpoint Harbor.

Students attend highly rated Bay Area schools, starting with Foster City Elementary School and Bowditch Middle School, both of which get A ratings from Niche. The last four years can be spent at A-plus-rated Hillsdale High School. The high school has won numerous accolades over the years — it’s a past winner of the California Distinguished Schools Award and the National Blue Ribbon Award. Its graduation rate typically tops 90%, putting it above the state average. “We’ve got really good schools. That’s why home prices are sitting around $2 million,” LaMont says.
