A nautical neighborhood in Foster City
Marina Point is a waterfront neighborhood in master-planned Foster City. About 23 miles south of downtown San Francisco, Foster City is comprised of residential islands surrounded by manmade canals. Marina Point is located on the outer ring of land surrounding the heart of the city. The neighborhood is made up of condos, apartments and townhouses with views of the water, and single-family homes further inland surrounding Ketch Park. “Marina Point is more commonly referred to as ‘The Ships’ neighborhood by those of living in Foster City, as the streets in this neighborhood are named after ships or parts of ships,” says Stacy Jimenez, mayor of Foster City. “If you are one of our original residents, of which there are many in this neighborhood, you would call it ‘neighborhood 4’ because it was the fourth neighborhood to be built.” Churches are within walking distance of this small, pedestrian-friendly community. The neighborhood’s overall CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national figure of 4.

Condos and single-family homes
Marina Point is made up of uniform cul-de-sacs lined with sidewalks. “The prolific use by the original developers of cul-de-sacs create opportunities for neighborhood gatherings, impromptu basketball games and a safe environment for families,” Jimenez says. Homes were mainly built in the late 1960s, including bungalows with attached garages and contemporary two-story constructions. Prices range from about $1.9 million to $2.5 million, depending on size and age. Condos and townhouses built in the 1970s and 1980s range from about $600,000 to $1.4 million, depending on square footage.

Basketball, volleyball and kayaking
In the middle of the neighborhood, Ketch Park has a basketball court, playground and open green space. More athletic facilities, like a beach volleyball court and tennis courts, can be found at Catamaran Park. Bay Trail winds around the perimeter of Foster City; from here, joggers and cyclists may see beachgoers, kite surfers and kayakers in the San Francisco Bay.
