Canopied residential streets

From the foothills to the slopy heights of Lehigh Mountain Park, Fountain Hill Heights lives up to its name. Located on the northern tip of Salisbury Township and just outside Fountain Hill Borough, this residential neighborhood offers a little slice of suburbia mixed with rural escapes. “It has a small neighborhood feel,” says Randyl Walters, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. “Everything is close with all the local shops and restaurants on one road.” Residents here can enjoy quiet residential streets under a canopy of evergreens, with many restaurants, shops and entertainment options about 4 miles away in neighboring Bethlehem.

Traditional single-family homes

Most of Fountain Hill Heights is tucked away from Broadway, a busy main road. Single-family homes that date back to the 20th century comprise most of the landscape. Architectural styles include a mix of classic colonials, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes that sit side by side. Split and Bi-level homes are also typical. Prices in this neighborhood can range from the low $200,000s to the low $400,000s. Some properties boast fenced-in backyards, while both in-ground and above-ground pools are a popular trend. Many homes feature paved driveways and the occasional attached or detached garage, but street parking is the only option for many residents. Closer to the base of town are century-old homes, including duplexes priced from the upper $100,000s to the lower $200,000s.

Surrounding outdoor retreats

Residents can get up close to nature by hiking along miles of trails through the dense woods of Lehigh Mountain Park to the Lehigh River. The community is close to smaller outdoor escapes like Dodson Street Park for youth league soccer games. Fountain Hill Park is home to the local Little League, where kids can play baseball and softball. It’s also where they can run around on the playground, strike up a pickup basketball game or cool off in the community pool. Laubach Park features baseball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer goalposts, and a colorful playground along Lehigh Avenue. Yet this park’s real gem is a tranquil fishing pond whose beauty stands out throughout all four seasons.

Shops and eateries on Broadway

Daisy Hill Kitchen and Grill is a unique treat. Though it looks like an unassuming gas station, Daisy Hill takes pride in its homemade foods that range from chili to cheesesteaks. Locals can enjoy fresh and seasonal farm-to-table cuisine inside Bolete’s rustic stone building with pale blue shutters. Next door, Vallos Bakery offers custom cakes and sweet treats like pastries and donuts. Yet Walters notes that one of the area’s biggest draws is its proximity to downtown. Spots like Kasey Lynn’s on Broadway are popular brunch spots in addition to various restaurants and breweries. “Bethlehem Brew Works on Main is great. People like it because they brew their own beer,” Walters says. “But there’s a lot of small neighborhood joints. It’s like people have their little microcosms.” About 2 miles away, Ideal Food Basket offers weekly groceries, or locals can head to the nearest Giant. Big-box stores like Target and Sam’s Club are near the airport along U.S. Route 22.

Community gatherings at SteelStacks

With Bethlehem and Allentown just minutes away, Fountain Hill Heights residents can enjoy various events before returning to their quiet homes. In Bethlehem, SteelStacks is the iconic event venue in town. “It used to be Bethlehem’s main steel plant. Once it closed, the city took it over. They didn’t really know what to do with it, so they turned it into an event venue,” Walters says. Today, it’s a popular gathering space for concerts, community events and more. Spanning 10 acres, indoor and outdoor venues host more than 1,000 concerts annually and are the grounds for the city’s largest events. Festivities here range from comedy and beer fests to the city’s iconic Christkindlmarkt, which Travel and Leisure named multiple times as one of the best holiday markets in the United States.
