American history and expansive properties in a convenient location
The Salem End Road neighborhood in Framingham, Massachusetts, bears a unique connection to its namesake. “One of the women in Salem accused of witchcraft, she escaped and settled in Framingham,” says Nelson Zide, an agent with ERA Key Realty Services. “And that’s why it’s called that because it’s the end of that story here.” Sarah Clayes, sentenced to death along with her sisters, did indeed escape and live in Framingham. “Her house is still there,” Zide says. “It’s almost like a museum.”
Besides the witchy history, this neighborhood is known for several expansive, expensive homes and a convenient location. “It can be an expensive area,” Zide says. “But on a good day, it’s just half an hour to Boston.”

Colonial styles on shady streets and expansive estates
Housing in the area is fairly diverse. Macomber Lane has large homes sprawling across wide lawns, while other parts of the neighborhood are populated with ranch-style homes and Colonial Revivals. Dense trees and short stone walls line some roads. Other pockets are surrounded by woods and water, thanks to the Sunbury River Reservoir, which snakes through the neighborhood. Many homes feature attached garages, which are boons during Massachusetts winters. Homes rarely sell here, with only a handful of sales over the past year. Prices are split depending on which side of the reservoir a house is located. East of the water, prices range from $575,000 to $880,000. West of it, they range from about $1.3 million to $1.6 million.
Peaceful pockets of the neighborhood are surrounded by lush woods and sparkling water, thanks to the nearby Sudbury River Reservoir.

Macomber Reservation among nearby hiking choices
Salem End Road doesn’t have a ton of parks in the neighborhood, but it does have the Macomber Reservation, 57 acres of woods, meadows, wetlands and streams with hiking trails. The Ashland Town Forest Trailhead is just a bit farther west on the neighborhood’s namesake road. The reservoirs’ dams and gatehouses are on the National Register of Historic Places, as is the Sudbury Aqueduct. A walking trail follows the aqueduct’s route for those interested in exploring that feature. The Longs Complex is home to sports fields. Next to it are the Loring Ice Arena, a skatepark and a dog park.

Plentiful shopping and dining a short drive away
Options for shopping and dining are close by. “They don’t have their own little shopping area,” Zide says. “But there’s a ton within a 5- to 10-minute drive.” Framingham Plaza Shopping Center has a Stop & Shop grocery store just over 1 mile east. Northwest of the neighborhood, Boteco do Manolo serves upscale Brazilian cuisine and offers both pickup and delivery. Outside the neighborhood to the west, the Oregon Club serves American fare in a building that once housed a speakeasy. A string of other dining options line Waverly Street, southeast of the neighborhood.

While the neighborhood doesn’t have a formal organization to organize community events, the city hosts several that residents can enjoy, including a Pride Ceremony to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and a winter tree-lighting ceremony. Throughout 2025, a series of events are being planned to celebrate Framingham’s 325th anniversary. Framingham Farmers Market runs weekly from June through October, with various vendors and food trucks.
Controlled choice school program for Framingham schools
Brophy Elementary School earns a C from Niche and is the closest to this neighborhood. However, the Framingham School District uses a controlled choice program, so elementary students don’t necessarily attend the nearest school. Fuller Middle earns a C-plus, and Framingham High earns a B-plus. The district is known for its diverse student body and many spoken languages. “We have something like 70 primary languages spoken in our school system,” Zide says. “It’s a real big plus.” Framingham State University is just across the reservoir for college students looking to stay close to home.
