Bourbon and farm life in Clifton-McKees Crossroads
Kentucky culture blends in Clifton-McKees Crossroads. Also called Millville, this community between Versailles and Frankfort has equine farms and Woodford Reserve, one of the state’s oldest distilleries. During the year, many flock to Woodford or the Castle & Key Distillery’s medieval-themed landmark for tours and samplings of Kentucky bourbon. Despite some extra noise from the distillery-bound trucks, the area appeals to those seeking horse-country life. “If you’re a horse person, you can shop at a gas station, doughnut shop or grocery store and run into horse people,” says Bruce Brown, owner of Lakeside Arena, a horse show venue. “Then, there’s a lot of people who have retired to this area because it’s a nice area. It’s not as cold as up north, and you don’t have to deal with the hurricanes of the South.”

It’s also not uncommon for the community to travel to the state capital, Frankfort, Versailles and even Lexington to dine. “There’s a lot of dining choices in the area. Lexington’s full of great places to eat,” Brown says. “It just depends on how much of the evening you want to spend traveling.”
