Easy access to amenities from the center of Franklin
Downtown Franklin residents are close to amenities but don't have the additional expenses of towns and cities closer to Boston, less than 50 miles away. Houses can take many shapes along the residential streets, including condos, Cape Cods and larger Colonial Revivals that are pressed up against the sidewalks. Most homes are less than a mile from dining and shopping, as well as Dean College, a small, private university that has been a part of the community since 1865. “Dean College and the commuter rail stations are the largest draws to the area,” says Amber Cadorette, a Realtor with Keller Williams Elite who has lived in the community for almost 40 years. "Access to both education and transportation is a big thing here.”

Commuter rail and Blue Star Memorial Highway
One of the main draws of the Downtown Franklin area is its transportation options, including the Blue Star Memorial Highway that curves around the downtown area. It connects to other major roads like interstates 90 and 95, providing two different routes for the 45-mile trip to Boston. Public transportation is also available at the Franklin commuter rail station, which gets residents to Boston in just over an hour. The downtown area is very walkable, with many sidewalks and greenspaces. Boston Logan International Airport is 50 miles from the community, and the Milford Regional Urgent Care’s Franklin branch is 3 miles away.
Varied Franklin home sizes and ages
Residences in Downtown Franklin include condos, multi-unit buildings, Cape Cods and towering Colonial revivals. Construction dates can also range considerably, from as early as the 1850s to as recent as 1990. “A lot of the homes have been tastefully updated to maintain their historic charm and not be completely renovated,” Cadorette says. “I recently sold one in the center of town that was just beautiful with its original hardwood flooring.” Single-family homes are often close to the street to maximize backyard space for a garage, garden or pool. Prices for condos run between $200,000 and $450,000, and smaller Cape Cods and American Foursquares can range between $400,000 and $600,000. Colonial revivals and New Englanders fall between $600,000 and $1 million.

Year-round fun in the Franklin area
The Franklin Town Common is a shaded green space with sidewalks converging at a brick gazebo and a Civil War memorial. The location and open nature of the park make it both a popular place to walk and hold events throughout the year. The Beaver Pond Recreation Area is often used for football games and swimming in the summer. There are also playsets at Nason Street Playground, as well as a playground and athletic fields at Dacey Community Field. The community field also has a dog park at the field along with a disc golf course.

Seasonal menus and time-honored Italian classics
When it comes to dining in Downtown Franklin, there is nothing more centrally located and well-known than The Rome Restaurant, a family owned part of the community since 1965. They are best known for their chicken parmesan and other pasta dishes. Just down Central Street, residents can find appetizers and flatbreads at 3 Restaurant, a more modern establishment that has quickly become popular. “They do a lot of seasonal changes, so it's always different when you go,” Cadorette says. The nearby Franklin Village Plaza shopping mall is home to a Stop & Shop and Marshalls. Residents can also head to the Big Y World Class Market east of downtown or the Franklin Farmers Market on Fridays from June through October in the Franklin Town Common.
