Affluent Franklin area community with outdoor perks
Berrys Chapel takes its name from a local church that began its congregation here in the late 19th century. Along with a road and creek, the neighborhood also shares its name with a reconstructed limestone wall that greets residents who enter the community from the north along Hillsboro Road. Located on Franklin’s outskirts, Berrys Chapel now consists of subdivisions and spacious upscale properties that pay homage to some of the region’s Antebellum architecture. Complementing this bedroom community are additional perks like pocket parks and neighborhood trails frequented by bikers exploring the surrounding land. “There’s a lot of hills around, and you see a lot of pretty trees. It’s rural, but it’s still in civilization. There’s not as much traffic and its homey,” says Samantha Plake, a leasing agent with the Retreat at Iron Horse apartments. “It's a little more expensive than Nashville, if not more, but without all the hustle and bustle.”

Other options include subdivisions featuring red brick contemporary Traditional and Colonial Revival homes on more compact lots, as well as developments with lakefront views. “I’d say the majority of the housing in the Berrys Chapel area is more affordable, and when I say affordable, we’re talking Franklin terms here,” says Scott Troxel, a Realtor with Keller Williams Music City. Single-family homes in Berrys Chapel mainly sell for just under $600,000 to $750,000. For those homes featuring extra-large footprints or multi-acre lot sizes price points can easily pass $1 million. Although Berrys Chapel doesn’t have a dense dining and shopping scene, its few establishments serve various cuisines. The health-conscious Herban Market is both an eatery and a natural foods grocer. Its patrons can enjoy espresso drinks, wines and menu items ranging from a fried egg-topped bowl of stew to tacos with slices of avocado. Stroud’s Barbeque serves downhome cooking, while those looking for sushi and ramen bowls can go to the Miso Japanese restaurant. Publix is the nearest grocery store. Berrys Chapel is also a few short miles from the shopping corridor anchored by the CoolSprings Galleria and The Factory at Franklin, the latter of which is an old stove factory that now hosts a vibrant mixed-use space. “It’s huge,” Plake says about The Factory. “It has everything from a theater to bars, to restaurants, to little boutiques. It’s a really cute area.”
