Franklinton is a growing town with new homes and businesses

In the west end of Franklin County lies the small town of Franklinton, known for its growing suburban communities and a significant land market in its outlying areas. The town has added new developments recently, including new restaurants and shops downtown and improvements to existing parks and infrastructure. Lot sizes of homes get larger as residents drive further out from the suburbs, with much of Franklinton's outer rim filled with dense Carolina trees and undeveloped lots. Greg and Wendy Dyer, a local Realtor team with Julie Wright Realty Group, say, "Franklinton is a growing community; developments like Woodland Park are great to move to since it's a custom home builder neighborhood."

Tacos, steaks and drinks downtown

In downtown Franklinton, locals can browse at Archer + Pratt, a local craft shop with home décor, furniture and other gifts. Franklinton Square Shopping Center features two restaurants, a Family Dollar and a Food Lion for groceries. Greg and Wendy Dyer say, "The town has a lot of nice restaurants; people come all the way from Wake Forest to eat in Franklinton." Residents have several local restaurants to choose from, like Toros Tacos + Tequila, serving al pastor tacos, tamales and spirits. There's also Franko's Italian Steakhouse and The Slammer Speakeasy, a prohibition-themed bar. The nearby town of Wake Forest also has a quaint downtown district with spots like Broadsides, a piano bar, and the Wake Forest Coffee Company. A Walmart is 9 miles east of town in neighboring Louisburg.

Suburban homes with new townhomes in development

Franklinton's modest suburban streets are dotted with compact bungalows, ramblers and New Traditional homes. There are more sidewalks in the walkable downtown area, but not as many in the more rural surrounding areas. Straight driveways and multi-car garages are common features for many homes. Many new construction single-family homes and townhouses are also on the market. Several new townhouse developments are under construction, including the Essex Townes subdivision along Main Street. Single-family homes in Franklinton range from $250,000 to $700,000.

Local churches and town events

The town has numerous houses of worship, including First United Church of Christ and the Franklinton United Methodist Church, which offers daycare services and a food pantry to help community members in need. In the spring, summer and fall, the town puts on Story in the Park at Texaco Station Park, where parents and kids can enjoy storybook readings on the grass lawn. The Carolina Manor House also hosts Music at the Manor, a popular summer concert series.

Franklinton Park and Texaco Station Park are family-friendly

Franklinton Park is a public 22-acre park with a newly remodeled playground, benches and a light walking trail. Texaco Station Park is a community gathering space with a grass seating area and a small amphitheater built from an old gas station. Locals often meet there to catch live music. Olde Liberty Golf Club is a private, 18-hole championship course through Carolina trees, just an 8-mile drive west from Franklinton.

Commuters can reach Raleigh or Wake Forest in under an hour

Driving is the best way to get around, considering the lack of public transit. Wake Forest is a 10-mile drive south of home, or about 15 minutes away. U.S. Route 1 runs north-south through Franklinton, leading to downtown Raleigh after 27 miles. Duke Raleigh Hospital is a 22-mile drive south, while the Raleigh-Durham International Airport is 32 miles from home and offers domestic and international flights.
