Rapidly growing area
Once a quiet rural area, the Pierce County village of Frederickson has transformed into a rapidly growing suburb and business destination. New highways and plentiful land brought new industrial businesses to the area in the late 20th century, and since then, the population has grown steadily, from 18,719 in 2010 to 24,906 in 2020. It’s part bedroom community for larger cities like Tacoma and Seattle, part business center, where locals can work in town at Boeing or Parr Lumber.
Many Fredrickson residents find employment at the centrally located Boeing fabrication plant.
Fredrickson is conveniently located close to both downtown Tacoma and downtown Puyallup.

From mobile homes to master-planned
Most home construction in Frederickson happened throughout the 20th century. Single-family homes on streets ending in cul-de-sacs sit within planned subdivisions built periodically after 2000. In communities like Edge Water at South Hill, two-story homes made of shingle and wood came online in 2012. One-story ramblers sometimes come with 1.5 acres for farming, and traditional-style houses sit in master-planned neighborhoods with community parks. Home prices in Frederickson range from $385,000 to $843,000. Mobile homes can cost $200,000.

Prairie habitat and mountains
Frederickson is home to Clover Creek, a salmon-producing waterway that was part of the reason the community was settled. On leisurely afternoons, locals gather at Cross Park, a 64-acre green space with walking trails, a prairie habitat and a playground for children. The Frederickson Community Center sits within the park, providing the public with an event space for weddings and business meetings. Golfers will appreciate the Classic Golf Club, which offers memberships for individuals and families. Hiking and camping at Mount Rainier are an hour away by car.

Frederickson has several industrial and manufacturing businesses, where workers bottle water and provide heating and cooling services. But it also has a fair number of chain stores and restaurants at the intersection of 176 Street East and Canyon Road East. Neighbors can shop for groceries at Safeway, grab a coffee at Starbucks or grab convenience goods from Amazon Go. Locals love the tacos, quesadillas and refried beans from Tony’s Tacos, a Frederickson institution operating out of a bus. A covered patio extends over the food ordering window, giving patrons a place to sit. Neighbors eat pizza and sip cocktails at Farrelli’s Pizza, which gets lively on the weekends. Chains like Taco Bell and Carl’s Jr. are also nearby.
