Cedar Hollow
New construction in Cedar Hollow
Much of Cedar Hollow still sits on untouched fields and brush. But as Georgetown grows — it was recently ranked the eighth fastest-growing city in the country — many residents are buying empty lots, some up to seven acres, and building new homes alongside the few existing houses. Many of the builds within the last 15 years feature Mediterranean details such as stucco siding and tile roofs, often selling between $1 million and $7 million. A few more modest homes in a new traditional style go between the mid-$400,000s and $600,000.Outdoor recreation on the Goodwater Trail
Abutting the south shore of Lake Georgetown, Cedar Hollow offers plenty of outdoor recreation. With a trailhead in the neighborhood, the Goodwater Trail encircles the reservoir for a 27-mile round trip. Along the way, bikers and hikers can stop to camp at Sawyer Park. “Lake Georgetown is awesome for fishermen or people who want to take their family out on the lake,” says Ray Mungia, broker at Mungia Real Estate. “You’re not contending with so much, like Lake Travis or Lake Austin, where there’s a lot more congestion.” Nearby, the private Cimarron Hills Golf and Country Club offers tennis courts and an outdoor pool.Well-regarded schools in Georgetown
Students in Cedar Hollow attend school in the Georgetown Independent School District. The neighborhood splits between Ford Elementary, rated A-minus by Niche, and recently opened San Gabriel Elementary. Benold Middle School receives an A-minus, followed by B-rated East View High School. Friday night lights shine bright at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex, a football stadium with 12,500-seat capacity.Fifteen miles from Cedar Hollow to downtown Georgetown
Cedar Hollow residents drive about 15 miles into Georgetown and don’t have to deal with the traffic of a larger city. Downtown Austin and the state capitol are about 35 miles via Interstate 35. CARTS, the bare-bones bus system, currently operates buses between Georgetown and Austin, although the CapMetro transit system is working to develop public transportation further into Georgetown from Austin. About 40 miles away, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport serves destinations across the country.Taking the trip to downtown Georgetown for dining
While residents enjoy the secluded nature of Cedar Hollow, it takes a little longer to get to the area’s suburban shopping centers or Georgetown’s town square. H-E-B grocery stores are nearby, with locations along State Highway 29 to both the east and west of the neighborhood. On the east side, closer to downtown Georgetown, Wolf Ranch Town Center attracts residents with stores like Target and Best Buy and chain restaurants such as Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Buffalo Wild Wings. Downtown Georgetown has plenty of local eateries, such as Fuego Latino Gastropub for Latin American favorites or Wildfire for steak and other wood-fired meats.Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown’s town square
With downtown Georgetown a quick drive away, Cedar Hollow residents often head into town for its entertainment offerings. “It’s really a family-friendly community,” Mungia says. “There are events going on in the square, cool restaurants, and, blended in with the new, you have that historic downtown charm.” Town square events include the Red Poppy Festival, which draws thousands of visitors and locals alike for live music, vendors and a parade over the course of a spring weekend.
