An engaged community in south Glendale
Pacific-Edison is a part of Southern Glendale, just east of the Los Angeles city limits. Downtown L.A. is about 8 miles south. Pacific-Edison was transformed in the 1990s through Glendale's Model Neighborhood Task Force, an initiative to reinvigorate communities. Since then, improvements to building and bikeways, sidewalks and landscaping have enhanced the neighborhood. The Pacific Edison Center area, developed as a community hub, is home to an elementary school, a public park and a community center.
Early 20-century architecture and newer townhouses
Early 20th-century Craftsmans and Spanish-inspired architecture are some of the options in Pacific-Edison. Single-family home prices range from $800,000s to more than $1.1 million. Condominiums and townhouses dating to the late 1980s and '90s typically sell from the low $500,000s to the $800,000s. Newer townhouses can sell for over $1 million.
Activities at the Pacific Community Center and Park
The Pacific Community Center and Park has a gym, computer lab, playground and multi-use court. The Cesar Chavez Commemorative Event, held here in March, celebrates the life of the civil-rights activist. Seasonal events include the Annual Fall Festival, with carnival games and a pumpkin patch, and the Spring Eggstravaganza in April. Little League teams frequent the baseball field. "I think the most unique part of the neighborhood is this area, with Pacific Park and the community center," says Glendale native Sera Stepanian. "There are always children and families here, but it's especially busy in the summer. They have done an all-around cleanup and put in colorful, vibrant new equipment, giving it a new, shiny look."

Pacific Community Pool teams and a Dive-In Movie
The Pacific Community Pool is another busy neighborhood spot, says Stepanian, who is also a facility attendant at the pool. "We have a year-round swim team and water-polo team, mostly made up of children." The teams are the Gators and the Polo Bears. An annual event in late summer is the family friendly Dive-in Movie. "We have a projector up on the pool, and it's free to get in. You can bring floaties or sit outside the pool and enjoy popcorn and snacks," she says. Past screenings include Finding Nemo and Luca.

Pacific-Edison eateries; mall shopping nearby
Pacific-Edison has some stores and restaurants, mainly along South Central Avenue, Brand Boulevard and San Fernando Road. The Toasted Bun diner has been open since 1963. The Atmosphere Restaurant & Lounge has Middle Eastern specialties, with optional hookah. It's less than a mile north to hundreds of shops at the Glendale Galleria and the Americana at Brand, which also has a movie theater. A Vons supermarket and a Costco are in the opposite direction.
