Kletzsch is 'the city's centerpiece'

Settled along the Milwaukee River, some argue that Kletzsch and its city park are the heart of Glendale . “It’s the city’s centerpiece,” says Nancy Resto, a broker with Coldwell Banker Commercial Realty. “Most of the community events are held there, and it’s utilized by the locals for just about everything.” Made up mainly of well-maintained homes on tree-lined streets, the neighborhood is almost entirely residential, with a smattering of businesses along Green Bay Avenue. Families are drawn to the area for its easy access to surrounding amenities and well-ranked public schools.

Midcentury homes frequently have quarter-acre lots

Midcentury-style homes dominate the landscape, situated on lots that are typically around a quarter or an acre or larger. The median year for housing construction is in the late 1980s, but the area maintains a traditional style. “It’s very suburban,” says Resto. Driveways with attached garages are standard, though sidewalks aren’t. Backyards are frequently fenced and filled with shady trees. Home prices typically run from around $240,000 to $440,000, depending on size and amenities.

Local schools have small classes and are well-ranked

Students in the area can attend Parkway Elementary, which has a B-plus from Niche. Afterwards, they can enroll at Glen Hills Middle School, which has a B. Older students will attend Nicolet Union High School. Niche gives the high school an A grade and lists it as one of the top 10 schools in the state. “The parents really like the class sizes – they’re extremely small by today’s standards,” says Resto. “They have a broad curriculum, so the kids are exposed to a variety of disciplines.” Wisconsin offers open enrollment periods, during which students can apply to schools outside their home district.

The Torah Academy of Milwaukee is an all-girls, private high school in Kletzsch that emphasizes Jewish education. The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program was the first school voucher program in the country, and it offers underserved students the opportunity to enroll in private institutions they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.

Kletzsch Park is a hub for locals

Literally and figuratively central to the neighborhood, Kletzsch Park is a hub of recreation and annual events. At over 140 acres, the park features baseball fields, hiking trails, sand volleyball courts and playground equipment. Anglers can cast a line for salmon within view of a gentle waterfall, and archers can line up a bullseye at the target range. Glendale celebrates the Fourth of July at Kletzsch Park with a day of food trucks, family activities, live music and fireworks.

Big-box stores and local dining are minutes away

Big-box stores, franchise restaurants and grocery stores like Aldi are minutes away just off Interstate 43. With a history that dates back to 1961, The Brick Pub and Grill offers upscale pub food in a low-light, wood-accented atmosphere. The rotating tap features a regular bevy of Milwaukee-based breweries, and cornhole teams meet on Monday nights for league play. Known for its gourmet diner menu, Bistro on the Glen has a full-service bar and live jazz performances.

Green Bay Avenue connects residents to nearby areas

Public transit is available through the Milwaukee County Transit System, which has bus stops along North Green Bay Avenue, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare. “There’s easy access to the freeway and Bay Shore Mall,” says Resto. “You’re very close to all the shops and boutiques in downtown Whitefish Bay .”

Jewish congregations and centers serve the community

Kletzsch and its immediate neighbors are home to several Jewish synagogues and community centers, including Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid, Chabad of Glendale & River Hills and Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah.
