Large, secluded estates in eastern Louisville
With some properties dating to the late 1800s, the community of Glenview features extravagant homes on larger-than-average lots. The eastern Louisville suburb still boasts historic charm and a private atmosphere situated along the Ohio River. “Glenview is well-established and was originally a summer estate area for people to get out of the city at the turn of the century,” says resident and local Realtor Nanette Tafel of Kentucky Select Properties. “The neighborhood has a historic aspect with a semi-rural feel and lots of green space, just 15 minutes from anything in town.”

Tucked away traditional colonial styles
Streets here are narrow and winding in the shadow of rolling hills. With many homes hidden by landscaping or forestry or built far from street view, residents have an enduring sense of privacy. Architecturally, Colonial Revival homes on lot sizes that average half an acre are most common. The iconic Boxhill estate, a Georgian Revival from 1910, is a perfect example of one of these historic homes. “You’ll find mostly older, stately homes and traditional estates,” Tafel says, noting English Tudor and Georgian colonial examples. With many homes overlooking the Ohio River, the established neighborhood garners a high per-capital income. The median price for real estate is $645,000, and prices may range from $400,000 for a modest brick ranch to sprawling riverside estates fetching up to $2.5 million.

Ohio River recreation and green spaces
At Thurman Hutchins Park, residents enjoy the natural beauty of wetlands and woodlands while strolling along the winding trails. Anglers fish by the pier, folks set up a picnic by the lake and kids take to the ballfields. Carrie Gaulbert Cox Park offers tranquil views of the Ohio River and access to walking trails and boat docks. “Both Thurman Hutchins and Cox Park are perfect for recreational boating, walking the tracks and taking children to the playground,” Tafel says. Nearby, the private Louisville Country Club’s 18-hole golf course is a destination for golfers and the Louisville Boat Club offers a dock and other sporting amenities.

Shopping at Holiday Manor
Because of its location, Glenview residents enjoy proximity to stores and restaurants. Local hotspots for riverside dining include Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille, while Cunningham’s Creekside provides a more lowkey atmosphere. “There are many options very close by, from Italian to Japanese,” Tafel adds, noting favorites like Bamboo Coffee & Donuts and Cuban-inspired Mojito Tapas. Sandwiched between US Route 42 and Brownsboro Road, Holiday Manor Shopping Mall houses shops and supermarkets, including Kroger and Paul’s Fruit Market, for added convenience.
