Peace and country living in St. Croix County
White-tail deer graze on the expansive farmland in the small town of Forest in St. Croix County. Home to some of the largest bucks in the world, Forest lives up to Wisconsin’s reputation for housing an ample herd. This northwestern town in Wisconsin is desirable for its country-style living, rural charm and secluded feel. “People who move here are looking to escape the city or avoid the city,” says Jacob Hughes, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. “They’re looking for a little peace in the country.” Local landmarks like the Forest Town Hall, a popular gathering spot for locals, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church have maintained it's small-town rural atmosphere since their settlement in the early 1800s. And with easy access to Route 63, trips into the Twin Cities are accessible within 60 miles or an hour’s drive.

Country-style farmhouses and New Traditionals
Like much of Wisconsin, Forest's landscape reveals acres upon acres of greenery. “The type of people who want to live here are looking for excellent schools in a quiet farm-country type of town,” says Hughes. A few houses are spread out in the community, and neighbors are a short hike away. The housing market in Forest is competitive due to its limited inventory and lot sizes above the national average. With a median sales price of $400,000, homes in Forest are more affordable than the average property in the Minneapolis Metro Area. The majority of the homes in the Forest were constructed in the early 1900s, boasting traditional ranch styles and farmhouses common of the era. Prices range from the low $300,000s for a three-bedroom rambler to upwards of $500,000 for a New Traditional with more acreage. “Most of the larger homes are custom-builds and tend to be newer,” says Hughes. Homes are situated on long country roads, connecting extensive farmland between residents.
