Mount Vernon
Neighborhood in Golden, Colorado
Jefferson County 80401
Mountainside houses offering various views and property sizes
Single-family homes sit at different elevations, providing various vantage points of nearby mountains. Architectural styles range from two- to four-bedroom cabin-inspired cottages to contemporary mountain homes, many with four to five bedrooms. Property size impacts home price—in addition to views—with many properties sprawling between an acre and five acres. The cottages can range from $500,000 to $1.3 million. Meanwhile, the contemporary homes cost between $1.2 million and $2.8 million.Nature trails, bison crossing and Mount Vernon Canyon Club activities
Genesee Park spans the neighborhood's western region with various trails, some multiuse and totaling over 6 miles. Bison herds traipse the park’s hilly terrain and can be seen from overlook points on some trails. “On any given day, you'll see people out walking, running, biking and enjoying Colorado's great weather,” Kadavy says. “As the seasons change from summer to fall and winter, recreationists switch gears from hiking to winter sports. Golden is less than an hour from multiple ski resorts and public lands where many enjoy skiing, ice fishing and hunting.” Mount Vernon Canyon Club sits atop a hill and includes a racquet complex with courts for pickleball and tennis matches. The club offers memberships to enjoy these facilities and other amenities, such as the heated pool, but it does not publicly disclose the membership rates. Apex Park spans the foothills west of Mount Vernon, where trails, including over a mile-long Enchanted Forest Trail, weaves past ponderosa pines and open space. With thick forests, the area has an elevated wildfire risk. Nearby fire and rescue stations carefully evaluate weather conditions, such as wind, to ensure fire bans are implemented if necessary.Choice and neighborhood schools in Jeffco Public Schools district
Jeffco Public Schools district offers choice enrollment. Still, Mount Vernon is zoned for neighborhood schools, such as Ralston Elementary School, which earns an A grade from Niche. Other neighborhood schools include Bell Middle School, which receives a B-plus. Golden High School is also part of the zoning and maintains an A-minus. High schoolers can concurrently enroll at Red Rocks Community College through its partnership with Golden High, which allows students to earn college credits at no cost in courses ranging from public speaking to college algebra.Country roads plus interstate and highway access
With its windy country roads, Mount Vernon seems farther than 20 miles west of Denver’s city center, despite that being true. Interstate 70 connects the neighborhood to the city and ties it to the Denver International Airport, which has hundreds of direct domestic and international flights about 40 miles east. The U.S. Highway 40 links the neighborhood’s residential streets to I-70 and Evergreen Parkway, where many shopping centers are located.Shopping and dining along Bergen Parkway and at Genesee Town Center
Despite Mount Vernon's lack of a central retail district, it has multiple shopping centers within an 8-mile drive. Across I-70 from the neighborhood, Genesee Town Center has the Genesee Country Store and locally owned restaurants, including Genesee Pub and BBQ and Guido’s Pizza Genesee, with an outdoor patio overlooking the Rockies. Nearby, Chart House serves steak and seafood in a white tablecloth setting. Shops are on Bergen Parkway, including King Soopers, the locally owned gift shop Village Gourmet and the home goods store Nellybelle General Store. The parkway also houses locally owned restaurants, such as Bagelry, a shop with cabin-inspired finishings from the bagel counter to the ceiling.
