Mount Vernon boasts natural recreational and scenic mountain vistas
Various pine trees and firs blanket Mount Vernon’s hilly terrain in Golden, a city at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. “People are drawn to the Golden area for many reasons. Outdoor recreation is close to home; [there’s] hiking and biking, kayaking, tubing and fishing on Clear Creek,” says Kyle Kadavy, a broker associate with Keller Williams Preferred Realty, with over a decade of experience. Single-family homes peer over these natural playgrounds, especially in the neighborhood’s center, where the Mount Vernon Canyon Club is based. The private club and surrounding acreage were primarily a summer vacation location before World War II. After the war, new homes were built to meet the influx of people coming to the mountainside and were occupied year-round.

Nature trails, bison crossing and Mount Vernon Canyon Club activities
Genesee Park spans the neighborhood's western region with various trails, some multiuse and totaling over 6 miles. Bison herds traipse the park’s hilly terrain and can be seen from overlook points on some trails. “On any given day, you'll see people out walking, running, biking and enjoying Colorado's great weather,” Kadavy says. “As the seasons change from summer to fall and winter, recreationists switch gears from hiking to winter sports. Golden is less than an hour from multiple ski resorts and public lands where many enjoy skiing, ice fishing and hunting.” Mount Vernon Canyon Club sits atop a hill and includes a racquet complex with courts for pickleball and tennis matches. The club offers memberships to enjoy these facilities and other amenities, such as the heated pool, but it does not publicly disclose the membership rates. Apex Park spans the foothills west of Mount Vernon, where trails, including over a mile-long Enchanted Forest Trail, weaves past ponderosa pines and open space. With thick forests, the area has an elevated wildfire risk. Nearby fire and rescue stations carefully evaluate weather conditions, such as wind, to ensure fire bans are implemented if necessary.
