Tree-lined residential streets near an industrial corridor
Thanks to the railroad tracks that make up the neighborhood’s western boundary, Rieth Park has long had an industrial presence that plays an important role in Goshen’s economy. But mere blocks from the row of industrial plants beside the tracks, the neighborhood has a more pastoral feel that’s embodied by its tree-lined streets and the family-friendly atmosphere at namesake Rieth Park. Its location on Goshen’s south side also makes Rieth Park a convenient place to live for employees of nearby Goshen College and Goshen Hospital.
A variety of mid-century housing styles
Most houses in the neighborhood were built between the 1940s and 1970s. The homes built in the ‘40s are smaller cottages under 1,000 square feet, originally intended to house workers in the plants. Larger ranch-style houses were built in the ‘50s and ‘60s; in the ‘70s, some split-level and two-story houses joined the neighborhood mix. Houses in Rieth Park are priced between $135,000 and $245,000.

Grade schoolers attend Parkside Elementary
Kindergarten through fourth-grade students in Rieth Park attend Parkside Elementary, which earns a B-plus rating on Niche. One of Parkside’s trademarks is its student ambassador program. At least two students in each class are tasked with leadership roles, such as greeting their classmates with a fist bump or high-five at the door each morning. In fifth grade, students move on to B-minus-rated Goshen Intermediate before advancing to B-rated Goshen Junior High in seventh grade. B-plus-rated Goshen High School is just a few blocks north of the neighborhood, making it walkable or bikeable for Rieth Park high schoolers. “One of the nice things about Goshen is it’s all the same high school,” says Annie Logan, a broker with Century 21.

Freight trains play role in neighborhood life
The plants lined up along the railroad tracks range across a variety of industries. “Combined, Goshen and Elkhart are in the top 20 for manufacturing communities in the United States,” says Nick Kieffer, president and CEO of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. One of Rieth Park’s plants, which bottles milk for the Dairy Farmers of America, is ceasing production at the start of 2025 but will still maintain a warehouse on the property. Goshen Hospital is less than a mile from Rieth Park, but delays caused by long freight trains can sometimes add time to the short trip. The Interurban Trolley Red Line, which connects Elkhart and Goshen, has stops along College Avenue. The nearest commercial airport, South Bend International, is 40 miles to the west.
Close to iconic South Side Soda Shop
With Martin’s Super Market on College Avenue, Rieth Park has the convenience of a grocery store within walking distance. Family Dollar and Goshen Noodles Vietnamese Restaurant are in the same shopping center. South Side Soda Shop, perhaps Goshen’s most iconic restaurant, is across the street from Parkside Elementary. Guy Fieri visited the vintage diner for an episode of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and Steve Buscemi picked the location as a setting for his debut as a movie director.
