Urban convenience with a suburban heart
Millbrook offers a leisurely suburban experience while maintaining an element of accessibility not often found on the outskirts of a major city. The curving roads are free from through traffic and are shaded by mature trees. Kids play in ample yards and bike on quiet streets, while adults take advantage of their free time to lounge by inground pools on patios. Located about 7 miles from downtown Grand Rapids, Millbrook is a community where residents settle down. "I have moved clients in with young children, and I have moved clients in who are retiring and downsizing," says Kristine Dozeman, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Schmidt who has been selling in the area for 13 years. Parks and trails are nearby, and residents have easy access to one of the largest shopping destinations in the city. With everything one may need within a short drive from home, it's no wonder the houses in desirable Millbrook sell after only two weeks on the market.

Plenty of lawn for green thumbs
Single-family homes from the middle decades of the 20th century fill the streets on the western side of Millbrook: Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes with a mix of vinyl and brick siding alternate on the spacious roads. Ranging between $230,000 and $500,000, the homes offer some of the largest yards within the city limits of Grand Rapids. Attached garages are standard, and lawns are manicured with pristine landscaping to match the beautiful trees that canopy the roads. Apartment complexes house the area's renters, and condo and townhouse communities take up the eastern half of the neighborhood. Units sit between $150,000 and $360,000, depending on size and amenities. Plaster Creek and its many offshoots branch out around the neighborhood, providing the soil nutrients to sustain such beautiful greenery. However, the creeks are susceptible to flooding, and the houses that border them have a higher chance of flood damage.
There are several very large condominium communities in and around Millbrook.

Surrounded by greenery
The northern point of Millbrooks is entirely green space. Indian Trails Golf Course has 18 holes and a driving range open to the public, and Woodlawn Cemetery is a quiet spot frequented by dog walkers and joggers. Right next door, at MacKay-Jaycees Park, activity fills the baseball diamonds, tennis courts and soccer fields. According to Peter Bruinsma, a broker and Realtor at Grand River Realty with 20 years of experience selling in Grand Rapids, "Plaster Creek Park is well known in the area. There are miles of hiking and biking trails that run through those woods, winding around the water." Many houses of Millbrook back up to the creek, and the sounds of insects buzzing and frogs croaking are familiar to those who leave their windows open during the mild summer months.
Indian Trails Golf Course is always bustling with golfers all season long.
Ken-O-Sha Park offers plenty of outdoor walking trails through serene woods along Plaster Creek.

A residential island in a sea of retail

Woodland Mall is 4 miles northeast and has over 125 stores, restaurants and entertainment options, including a movie theater. Closer to home, Mithu Srilankan & Indian Cuisine is the best spot for curry and rice dishes. The minimalist restaurant has over 1,000 reviews and an overall rating of 4.9 stars on Google. Pietro's Italian Restaurant is across 28th street from Aldi and Meijer, serving classic pasta dishes, pizzas and meatballs from a dim-lit dining room with tile floors and Sicilian Décor.

The sounds of planes and trains nearby
A train track borders the area in the north, and planes can often be heard landing at nearby Gerald R. Ford International Airport just 5 miles east. However, Millbrook's wooded areas offer a bit of a sound buffer, ensuring that the neighborhood retains its calm residential spirit. Buses stop along the eastern and western roads of the neighborhood, and commuters heading downtown can drive west to Route 131, which leads north to the city.
