An eclectic mix of home styles and wide range of prices
The home styles vary throughout the neighborhood, mixing bungalows with Craftsman influences, Minimal Traditional builds, Cape Cods, American Foursquares and even a Saltbox or two. Most have three or four bedrooms and have been thoughtfully renovated. They sit snugly on compact lots, with grassy front yards dotted by trees. Detached garages are common, tucked away in backyards, but there are driveways and wide streets for homes that don’t have them. Sidewalks are plentiful around the neighborhood, allowing residents to walk to nearby schools and parks. Most homes are priced between $200,000 and $400,000, though the full price range is about $120,000 to $800,000. Homes on the lower end often need major updates, and more expensive homes often sprawl to nearly 3,000 square feet and have been painstakingly renovated.

Plenty of green spaces in and near the neighborhood
Residents head to Cambridge Park (also known as “Tower Park” by many residents thanks to the large, silver water tower located there) when they want fresh air and exercise. “A lot of locals bring their dogs and let them run around, which is really nice,” Wilson says. Mulick Park, another neighborhood green space, offers a brightly colored playground and splash pad that buzzes with activity in the summer and a big hill perfect for sledding in the winter.

Grand Rapids Public Schools serve area kids
The schools assigned to the neighborhood are Mulick Park Elementary, a magnet school that serves pre-kindergarten through fifth grade and has a C rating on Niche, C-minus-rated Alger Middle, which is also a magnet school, and Ottawa Hills High, which has a C rating. At Ottawa High, students can enroll in one of two learning academies that focus on hospitality and tourism or media production. Families considering private education for their kids have several faith-based and preparatory academies in the area to choose from.

Residents enjoy art during the annual ArtPrize show and competition
Among the many events held throughout Grand Rapids, one that stands out is ArtPrize, an annual art show and competition that lasts 18 days and draws artists from across the globe to display their work and win cash prizes.Kalamazoo Avenue helps keep commuters off the highways

Residents head to Last Chance Tavern & Grill, a local neighborhood bar off Burton Street with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, to eat pub grub and drink Michigan microbrews. Nearby Harvest Health Foods has organic produce and Hall Street Bakery has freshly baked croissants and bread. Meijer and Whole Foods are off 28th Street Southwest. Gaslight Village is also just outside the neighborhood, featuring lakeside shopping and dining.
