Grayson is a walkable community

Located between Atlanta and Athens, Grayson boasts well-ranked schools, plenty of parks and festive community events. So, it’s little surprise that the city is ranked as a top spot for families to settle down, with an A rating from Niche. “It’s a small town, but everything you need is close by. You can walk to parks, churches, shops, the library,” says Susan Kliesen, a Realtor with RE/MAX Center who lives in Grayson. “It’s a really diverse area. Every single nationality in the world is here. There are people from China, Russia, South Korea, Columbia. It’s a melting pot.”

Grayson’s got curb appeal

Grayson features classic suburban neighborhoods with well-established sidewalk space, uniform grid-patterned streets, and cul-de-sacs. Homebuyers will find a wide variety of home styles here including bungalows, Colonial Revivals, ranch homes and Cape Cods. “You get more land and more spacious homes than you’d get in Atlanta for the same price,” says Samantha Pino, a Rockhaven Realty agent, who specializes in the area.

The average sales price hovers around $480,000. A cozy three-bedroom could sell for around $325,000, while a sprawling estate might fetch nearly $2 million.

Students attend well-ranked Gwinnett County Schools district schools

Grayson Elementary, Couch Middle and Grayson High serve the city. Part of the Gwinnett County Public Schools district, the elementary and middle schools score A-minus Niche grades, while the high school earns a B-plus. "Families love living in Grayson because Gwinnett County Schools is one of the state's biggest and most raved districts,” Pino says.

The high school’s Grayson Technical Education Program preps students for careers in multiple fields ranging from photography to sports medicine. It also boasts winning football, basketball and baseball teams. “At one point, the best baseball player and the best football player in the country were in the same class at Grayson High,” Kliesen says.

At the center of town, Grayson Park offers a green space where residents can picnic under shady Georgia pine trees, walk their dogs or watch their kids blow off steam on the playground. Bay Creek Park, on Ozora Road, features a track, tennis courts and a skate park. A quick 5-mile drive east leads to the 700-acre Tribble Mill Park, with miles of biking and horseback riding trails winding through the forest and a lake for boating and fishing.
