Ninth Street leads around 2 miles east to downtown Greeley, which has a wide range of local businesses from family owned eateries to shops displaying the work of local artists, like Makers Mercantile & Studio. “We feature over 50 different artists here,” says Sally Otto, the store’s owner and a longtime Greeley resident. “It can be hard for crafters to get their work out to the public eye, and we help them with that, whether it be paintings, photography or pottery.” Makers Mercantile also hosts programs in its studio, from watercolor classes to seasonal decor workshops.

Live music at Friday Fest
Ninth Street is also one of the city’s most active event hubs. “In the summer, we have Friday Fest each week,” says Otto. “Folks gather downtown where they close off the street to cars and people, listen to live music while enjoying food and beer from the eateries on Ninth.” People bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to the event, which is held each Friday evening from late May to mid-September.

Madison Elementary School earns a C-plus grade from Niche and is within a half-mile walk from all homes in Houston Heights.
