Lombardi
Shadow Lane houses
The Lombardi neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and ‘60s when the stadium was built. “Green Bay started as a manufacturing city, and most of this neighborhood reflects that,” DeGuelle says. “The homes fit the blue-collar persona, and they’re going to be smaller.” That’s still the case, except for a few houses on the south side of Shadow Lane that back up to Lombardi Avenue. Some smaller homes have been torn down, and two-story, more contemporary houses have been built. Homes on that road can range from $500,000 to $1 million just because of the proximity to the stadium and the backyard view. Blocks farther from the stadium, ranch-style and Cape Cod homes with 1,000 to 2,000 square feet of living space sell for between $250,000 and $350,000 and have two to three bedrooms. The Lombardi neighborhood on game day
When 80,000 people descend on Lambeau Field for a Packer home game, finding a good parking place is a commodity. That’s where the residents of this neighborhood jump into action. “For three or four blocks, residents charge people for parking on the street, and everyone just walks into the stadium. It’s kind of magical,” DeGuelle says. “Sometimes people will park in the yards. People are throwing parties and tailgating. The most expensive fee for parking in that neighborhood is $30-40, and it’s cheaper the farther north you go.” There’s parking even in the northern part of the neighborhood. “It’s about a 15-minute walk to the stadium from my house, and people are parking even north of where I live,” says Matt Bassuener, who owns a bed and breakfast across the street from Beaumont Park. “You walk out the front door, and you’re just joining the parade of people walking.”Recreation away and close to Lambeau
Located behind Beaumont Elementary School, Beaumont Park is active during the warm weather with soccer and baseball games and tennis matches. During the cold Wisconsin winters, where the average low temperature is 11 degrees, the park has a rink where ice skating occurs. “It’s an active park, and the playground features equipment donated by the Packers,” Bassuener says. “The demand for the B & Bs around the stadium is pretty high, but even during the off-season, we do good business.” Even if the football season is over, there’s still plenty to do on the north side of Lombardi Avenue. The area just west of the stadium is the Titletown District, which opened in 2017. It’s a mixed-use entertainment district with activities like Arien’s Hill, a popular sledding and tubing destination during the winter. A football field is close to the playground, which holds flag football league games and Zumba classes. Yoga sessions are held every Monday at the base of Ariens Hill. Thursday evenings during the summer, Titletown Night Market offers goods from local vendors and has live music.Eating options in the Titletown District
Kroll’s West has been a family-owned Green Bay restaurant for nearly 90 years and is in the shadow of Lambeau Field. It’s known for butter burgers, where the butter melts on top of the patty, resulting in a juicy eating experience. The restaurant is also known for the “signature wall,” signed by famous people who have dined there, including Packer legends Brett Favre and Bart Starr and former football coach and legendary broadcaster John Madden. Hinterland Brewery has a variety of locally brewed craft beer to enjoy in the German-inspired beer hall. Metro Market is at the western edge of the Titletown District for groceries. Target and Hy-Vee are more options south of the stadium.Elementary school in the Lombardi neighborhood
Beaumont Elementary School is in the neighborhood’s northern part and has over 200 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. The school is rated an overall C-plus. Lombardi Middle School has the same C-plus overall grade. The school offers more than 50 elective courses and activities. Green Bay Southwest High School receives a B overall on Niche and has career and technical education courses through Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.Downtown Green Bay Farmers’ Market
The Lombardi neighborhood is only 3 miles south of downtown Green Bay, where every Wednesday during the summer is the Farmers’ Market on Broadway. “It’s huge in the community and one ginormous party. It’s considered one of Wisconsin's best farmers’ markets,” DeGuelle says. There’s usually live music, and vendors sell craft beer. The Green Bay Metro Transit has bus stops along Lombardi Avenue near the stadium. The neighborhood is also only 4 miles from Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
