Marquette Park
The Cape Cod and ranch-style homes of Marquette Park
Wide, grid-like streets make up the Marquette Park’s residential landscape. Pine and oak trees are dominant here, with at least one old or new-growth tree appearing in each front yard. These share the 0.3-acre average-sized plots with sidewalks that show the neighborhood’s age, through grass that fills cracks within the cement, and occasional unlevel seams due to settling over time. However, these cosmetic aspects are minor and don’t keep residents from strolling the block. “There’s lots of people out walking dogs around the neighborhood,” shares Kathy Melty, Realtor with Coldwell Banker, who has six years of experience selling in Green Bay. “It’s a very active neighborhood in the area.” One-car driveways lead to mid-20th century ranch-style homes, with a handful of Cape Cod styles. Potential homebuyers can expect a price range from $150,000 to $340,000, depending on size and condition.Getting involved with the community at Southwest High School
Most students in Marquette Park attend Beaumont Elementary School and Lombardi Middle School, both of which maintain a C-plus on Niche. Meanwhile, older students head to Southwest High School. The B-rated school offers several service-based clubs, including Fox River Monitoring, Power of Peer Supporting, Trees for Tomorrow and many others, which aim to improve student leadership skills and overall involvement with peers and the greater community. Meanwhile, students living in the remaining northwest corner of the community attend C-plus-rated Jackson Elementary School, Franklin Middle School, which maintains a C and West High School with a B-minus rating.Fox River views at Leicht Memorial Park
Located at the heart of the community, many make afternoon walks to Marquette Park. The park sees most visitors during summer when kids cool off while splashing about in the park’s shallow wading pool. Its soccer fields also get plenty of traffic in the form of pick-up games and Green Bay Kickers league games when in season. Leicht Memorial Park is Green Bay’s western side’s best spot for a walk along the Fox River. The bustling park hosts several annual and pop-up events for locals to check out throughout the year. Closer to home is Lambeau Field, just 1 mile south. For convenient commutes, residents can hop on a Green Bay Metro bus at the intersection of West Mason Street and South Oneida Street to take the QB Sneak Route directly to the stadium.Eating in the Broadway District and Green Bay Plaza shopping
Bhava Coffee, a popular locally owned café less than 2 miles northwest on West Mason Street, welcomes the morning crowd with locally roasted beans and friendly service. Green Bay Plaza sits across the street, home to a TJ Maxx & HomeGoods and Dollar Tree for retail needs. Less than two blocks north is an ALDI along Military Avenue, where residents pick up groceries. A trip toward the east leads to the eateries of the Broadway District. “What I like about the community is how close it is to the Broadway District, Welty shares. “It’s a big pull for people living on the city's western side.” Chefusion, located on North Broadway, 2 miles northeast, is one of many restaurants in the district. The gastro-pub-style restaurant offers a casual and fine-dining menu depending on the occasion and live music every weekend.
Wednesday afternoons at the Farmer's Market on Broadway
Leicht Memorial Park hosts free Sunday concerts with Levitt AMP Green Bay Music Series each summer. Along with a rotating roster of performers, the park fills with food and drink vendors to carry attendees through the evening. The park is also known for the annual Tall Ship Festival, combining some nautical history with fun, including a giant inflatable rubber duckie. Meanwhile, the Farmer’s Market on Broadway takes place every week. The bustling afternoon market runs from late May to late September, with over 100 vendors selling local craft beer, meats, carry-out food and more, presenting a more nighttime feel than the Saturday Farmers Market in downtown Green Bay, which takes place in the morning.Commuting from Marquette Park
Though Interstate 41 sits 4 miles west, residents have plenty of less-trafficked routes to use when getting around. More specifically, commutes to downtown Green Bay are a 2-mile trip northeast along Clinton Street. Meanwhile, HSHS Saint Vincent Hospital is a 3-mile drive east on West Mason Street, while Green Bay Austen Straubel International Airport is a 6-mile drive southwest on Lombardi Avenue. Residents can also hop on one of the Green Bay Metra bus stops, which line West Mason Street and provide routes through the Green Bay area. The noise of West Mason Street
Living along West Mason Street does come with some background noise, specifically for those on Marquette Park’s northern side. According to Alex Young, a Realtor with Keller Williams Commercial, homeowners close to the throughway will experience a bit of noise pollution in the form of traffic, as well as passing trains along the railroad a few blocks farther north. However, he mentions that this does not have too much of an impact on the community as a whole.
