Quick strolls to the namesake park and short drives to the Broadway District
The suburban community of Mather Heights offers quiet streets with a namesake park in the heart of the community. Mather Heights Park brings residents together through events organized by the neighborhood association, like the Annual Meeting and Movie in the Park. Making the 1-mile trip east to the breweries and restaurants of the up-and-coming Broadway District is also commons practice and caters to the community’s changing residential landscape. “It’s a very family-friendly neighborhood,” says Jerrilynn Vandenberg, broker and owner of Fireside Realty, LLC, who has over 15 years of experience in Green Bay. “It’s home to a good mix of ages, though it’s beginning to welcome a new wave of younger homeowners.”

Swimming at Mather Heights Park and ice skating at Perkins Park
The community’s namesake park sits near the center of the neighborhood, along Richardson Street. Alongside its playground and open green space, the park welcomes little ones who cool off in the on-site kiddie pool during the summer. “It’s a very spread out and clean park,” Vanderberg says. “There’s plenty of room to enjoy the swing, have picnics and run after birds.” When winter rolls around, neighbors gather to carve figure eights at the ice-skating rink in Perkins Park two blocks west, where local food trucks occasionally make their rounds.
Perkins Park regularly hosts summer camps and baseball practice for local teams.
The splash pad at Mather Heights Park is a favorite destination for kids during the summer.

The many brews of Copper State Brewing Co.
Vandenberg mentions that the city is catering to a younger audience through its Broadway District, which may explain the growing appeal of Mather Heights to younger homebuyers. The district is located 1 mile east of the neighborhood along Dousman Street. “A lot of people like making the trip to the Broadway District for happy hour,” Vandenberg says. Copper State Brewing Co., Chefusion and Sushi Lover Green Bay are a few of the many eateries along North Broadway. Copper State Brewing Co. is a popular casual spot that offers classic pub-style food and over 100 different beers to choose from. Groceries at Aldi sit a 2-mile drive south on North Military Avenue, while retailers like Big Lots, TJ Maxx & HomeGoods, alongside several others, are a half mile farther along the same route.
Copper State Brewing is well known for its scratch-made menu and diverse selection of beers.

The Cape Cod and ranch-style homes of Mather Heights
Like most of the city, Mather Heights’ residential streets reveal a grid-like pattern. Each block has a pair of spaced-out streetlights and sidewalks just wide enough for the pup to take a morning stroll, which many in the community enjoy. These sidewalks connect to one-car driveways, which lead to detached garages and walkways leading to front doors of mid-to-late 20th-century Cape Cod and ranch-style homes. Plots here span from 0.29 to 0.38 acres, with backyards taking up more of the total, offering enough space for a patio or above-ground pool to entertain. Those looking to move into the neighborhood can expect a price range that starts at $135,000 and reaches up to $305,000, depending on size, condition and acreage.

Local music at Mather Heights National Night Out
The community’s neighborhood association throws the Mather Heights National Night Out in early August. Held at Mather Heights Park, neighbors catch up over live music ranging from bluegrass to classic rock and eats provided by local food trucks. In late October, the community meets in the same spot for the Annual Meeting & Movie in the Park, where residents can share concerns and thoughts about their community before sitting out on the lawn for a movie showing paired with treats. Each summer, the much anticipated Farmers’ Market on Broadway makes its annual return, where over 100 vendors sell local produce, baked goods and craft beer from late May to late September.
West High School's Friday night games
Young students living on the western side of Marshall Avenue attend Chappell Elementary School, while those on its eastern side head to Elmore Elementary School, both of which maintain a C-plus grade on Niche. Many of these students go on to Franklin Middle School, which holds a C rating, and West High School. The B-minus-rated high school has a fierce rivalry with East High School across the river, the longest in the state's history. As a result, many come out to cheer on the Wildcats every Friday during the fall football season.
Parents enjoy walking their children to Chappell Elementary School in the mornings.

I-41 and Green Bay Metra bus stops
Velp Avenue is less than a mile north and leads to Interstate 41, 2 miles northwest, which connects commuters with the rest of the city. The throughway also provides 10-mile trips southwest to the flights of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport. HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital is closer to home, 2 miles southwest along North Military Avenue, as well as downtown Green Bay, 3 miles southeast on Velp Avenue. 10 Green Bay Metra bus stops line Mather, Desnoyers and Thomas Streets, providing routes throughout the western and eastern portions of the city.
Passing trains north of Velp Avenue
A series of railroads sits less than a mile northeast of the community, coursing through industrial terminals and warehouses the other side of Velp Avenue. Though many consider the periodic passing of trains to be unbothersome, those looking to live on the neighborhood’s north end may want to consider this if they are sensitive to this kind of noise.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
